Oh man, i wouldn't mind being able to own guns as these...

Just to be able to enjoy full-auto blankfiring with disposable rounds!

Like the Tokarev, this PPSH was modified from a live one isn't it?

The blank-firing modification - is it temporary (can turn back to live weapon) or permanent?

It is permanent modification of this PPSH.
Nobody can own such weapon in Russian Federation. Our law on weapons does not allow it.

This makes me want to get one by Hudson - but I want those made in the 80s because the wood stock from the current lot is simply disappointing (extremely soft & light-coloured)...

Hudson's PPSh doesn't fire particularly well either, it's not just the wood that's soft Jim, the bolt's made from putty too.
The PPSh is a beautiful looking gun and Hudson have made a really nice job of replicating it. Comparing the photographs of this converted real example with my own Hudson model shows what a nice job Hudson have done.
I have to agree with you that the wooden stocks on the older models, but particularly the real weapons looks far, far better.

So now Cerwyn I've no other choice but to get one asap before they're gone (or worse the shop rise their prices)...it happened last time over 10 years ago when KSC had to drop all "Beretta" references on their Beretta-shaped pistols and the shops immediately doubled the price of their remaining stock (especially the pfc M93R) Mad

Indeed Jim, it'll be a case of getting one while you can Prices had been rising sharply anyway thanks to the Pound / Dollar / Yen rates. Another increase in prices would likely make modelguns too expensive to even consider buying.

I've wondered about the possibility of buying a genuine PPSH41 wooden stock and transferring the Hudson model metalwork over to give a better looking modelgun.

Another possibility is to stain Hudson's woodwork with a better colour

In Poland PPSh stocks appear occasionally (once every 2-3 months). Prices range from 20$ (replica) to 50-80$ (original).
Original AK stocks are much more common, priced 8-15$.

Original (WWII or post-war) PPSh slings are quite common. Sling price is 5-10$.

Shipping to UK (as pretty much anywhere else those days) is quite expensive though, about 50$/2kg :-/

Info tidbit: original drum mag loaded with ammo was very heavy (2kg mag alone, >5kg with weapon), it also had tendency to jam. A new magazine was developed, a curved stick. Unfortunately it had a tendency to fall out during longer fire bursts due to latch design. Instead of improving the latch, soldiers were asked to support weapon by the magazine, so it does not fall out ;-)

Really Now that has got me thinking about the possibility even more....
I wonder how easily the PPSh model parts would transfer over
