With Blow-Forward operated weapons, the barrel is virtually the only moving part of the weapon that is forced forward by the moving bullet, against the rifling and barrel spring. The cartridge pressure must be able to force the barrel forward enough to re-chamber a new round.
Although this was applied to a few firearms, most notably a few pistols, There was an attempt back around WW1 to manufacture a machine gun using this operation chambered in the .30-40 Krag round used in US Service. The last known weapon to use Blow-Forward was the MK20 Mod 0 40mm Automatic Grenade Launcher used by the US Navy during the Vietnam War. |
