Gas BlowBack Airsoft section?

Following shazhib's suggestion, and ljerr's response, would you guys be in favour of a Gas BlowBack (only) Airsoft section here Question

shazhib wrote:
Welcome mate.
Glad to have new member.

I see your point you like modelgun, but airsoft at the same time....so am I.

I think we may want to have an area to discuss airsoft as well, HOWEVER, blow back airsoft only. No air cocking or electronic. Why? because blow back air soft can share some kind of real firearms action. air or electronic is toyish, no cross line with modelgun.

On top of that, there isn't so many new stuff for modelgun nowaday, it may be very difficult to run this nice forum up and running only with modelgun topic to be honest. I viewed other airsoft sites, but this MP40 is the best. I would rather would like to discuss airsoft in here, not other airsoft dedicated sites. People are so nice and kind, I've never seen or received from forum member that
"hey, you even don't know such a basic thing"
kind of smart ass attitude which you may find so often in other sites.

You've find the very right one.

welcome again.

I would read and contribute to a GBB section. Like Shazhib, I too have been bitten by the GBB bug. I think it could be viewed as just a section of the model gun forum, not to imply that this will become an airsoft forum. I think (my opinion) is that airsoft, in general, attracts the younger crowd and that is where you end up with all of the smart asses as Shazhib suggested. We don't want that here - we certainly don't want to change the atmosphere of this forum.
The WA M4 is quite a remarkable item, with its realistic operation. I also have an old Maruzen KG-9 (gas in mag) GBB. It is a beast!
Just my two cents. I certainly understand others' opinions if they are against it. I will continue to frequent no matter what is decided.

There has always been a No-Airsoft policy here because it is thought that Airsoft guns, more so AEG and Spring powered bb guns are not Model Guns.
Shazhib's comments echoes this notion, and rightly so, but then highlights the fact that some GBB guns mimmick the workings of real firearms far closer than any electric gun ever did.

To date, this forum has attracted 63 members. The number of members logging on daily has been increasing steadily, 10 to almost 20 sign on daily which is very encouraging. We're attracting new members too which is extremely encouraging.

Far fewer post messages which in some part is due to not many new modelguns appearing on the market these days?
Would a GBB section create more interest and discussion amongst us?

So, what do you guys think?

I would definately NOT want to end up like some Airsoft forum sites I've seen, i.e. unfriendly, unwelcoming, with little time for newcomers.
This modelgun forum has always given newcomers the warmest of welcomes, ANY help and advice has always been given freely, there's never been any silly arguing or bickering and I won't be alone in wishing that to continue.

A lot of you are keen Airsoft gun owners as well as PFC. If the majority of you guys would like to see a GBB (ONLY) Airsoft section here, then please voice up.
Likewise if you DO NOT want to deviate from the original concept of PFC and Dummy Modelguns then please express your thoughts.

i would have to agree to having a GBB section on the forum, i know it sort of goes away from model guns but i have a lot of airsoft models as well and most are GBB and although i am a member of airsoft forums i dont have much to do with them so discussing on here would be good.
i would not want to see them overtake the modelgun side but at times discussing some airsoft GBB's may keep the forum running when the modelgun side goes through its normal lulls.

Thanks Claymore, I appreciate your thoughts on this one. I wouldn't want Airsoft to overtake the Modelgun basis of this forum, absolutely not, but a GBB section might well fill in those quiet periods.

Might I ask you to vote on the Poll above please mate Question Same goes for everybody on this one please, it's YOUR forum, please voice up your opinions as to what you would wish to see here and get your votes in Wink

I voted no because i don't want a separate [air-soft] section in this forum. We have quite a lot of sections as it is and in my experience if there's a lot of sections they will have less content and thus will not attract new posts etc.

However i don't mind, and enjoy, the occasional air-soft discussion and/or posts.

So in my opinion i'll guess air-soft should be allowed but no separate forums, i think we really should try to keep this forum clean of as much "non-model gun" stuff as possible really.

I'll do my best to keep posting anyway Very Happy

Well I don't contribute much to this site, but I thought I'd still vote Smile Voted yes because of two reasons: I'm a huge GBB enthusiast and I agree, that it would probably draw more new members. I also see the crossline between GBB and modelguns, of course you don't have shells (at least not in most modern GBBs, the new Glock 21 from Marushin being a rare exception), but you get blowback much easier and cleaner than in a modelgun.

Be careful though: GBB is a new trend in the airsoft scene and since Western Arms released their M4 GBB, more and more manufacturers want a share of the cake. So I think claymore's fear of the GBB section overtaking the modelgun section is not that far fetched...

I put No as GBBs ( in my opinion) have nothing similar to real weapons in terms of construction and operation ...its just a slide moving backwards and even my Playstation light gun does that Very Happy

Im up for discussing shell ejecting GBBs though as I think these do have some similarities plus Marushin did actually make a cap firing modelgun that did indeed use gas to eject the shells !

Plus they made the M1 and Uzi shell ejectors and now the lovely looking Glock 21.

A lot (but no means all ) true Airsoft people can be a bit " up themselves " .......

my tuppence anyway

Very Happy Thanks for your thoughts Doc Very Happy , I must admit that the few Airsoft forum sites I visited, and unfortnately, an Airsoft site I had dealings with, were rather full of people that were more than a little "up themselves" Rolling Eyes

I for one, and I'm certain that most of the regular readers / contributors here would definately not want the sort of arsy behaviour seen on some Airsoft forums.

It's a close running vote at the minute, but only 10 votes cast. It would be nice to get a larger response to this Poll.

Well, depends on what the forum is about. I agree, that most normal airsoft people are terrible in forums (I know it first hand, I'm moderator on a german airsoft board). But in niche forums like classicairsoft.net for example, the users are really nice, helpful and honest.
I wouldn't expect this forum to become like a normal airsoft board. But if you guys fear it would, why not create a section for shell ejecting airsoftguns only?

By the way: I don't agree with that, Doc, many GBBs have a similar construction to their real counterparts. Sure, the magazines are totally different, how could they not be, but to compare them to a videogame lightgun is a bit... adventurous Smile

oh I don`t mean to suggest that GBBs are as simple in design to a light gun ..I mean they just dont have that similarity with a real gun or modelgun. (for me )

Case in point :

Marushin ABS ( Now HW ) MP40 ....quite similar to a real gun , mag, cartridges, gunpowder ,ejection of spent rounds, mechanical noises.

Marushin GBB MP40 .... MP40 looking thing that has a bolt move strangely backwards and forwards whilst flicking out plastic balls ...ok it could be argued its more akin to RS as it fires a projectile but has not got the same ( take it apart and clean it type thing to make sure it works )

Dont get me wrong ...I`m no GBB hater as I have a few myself however they only interest me in that they can put a bb on a target ( usually cat shaped) They have none of the mechanical stuff that interests me in RS or modelguns.
My GBBs dont interest me any more than my non GBBs.

This is just one mans opinion though.

I voted yes. This is because some collectors of modelguns also collect gbb guns. Many people just love guns and owning a replica may often be their only option, be it an airsoft, cap gun, stage prop, modelgun, gbb, or blank firing gun. Since many modelgun users may also collect gbb, it could go the other way and new members who are into gbb might discover how cool modelguns are and venture into that hobby.

It does seem that the majority of modelgun enthusiasts are more mature and that may be due to the pricing of the modelguns. Young people are more apt to purchase a cheaper airsoft. Though many young people have the capacity to be mature, I understand there's still the possibility of attracting the smack talking "up themselves" types. (I know exactly what you mean Cerwyn. lol )

But growth is good. Good usage of moderators and just setting a good example will often prevent the smack talking you may have seen on other forums and venues.

For me it's all about things that can be used as props, and gas blowback handguns are great for movies, videos... I've even used 'em in live plays, after sticking a silencer on one.

I do have one of the shell-ejecting gas blowback uzis... thing jams like a... probably censored word, so I won't even try. Uses plastic casings that regularly stick and/or chip, since the feed ramp and ejector are all metal, and every time it jams it sprays gas on the plastic, making it very cold and brittle. Feels great though, and is nice when it works.

I've wondered if getting some kind of dummy metal rounds for it would solve my problems, but haven't been able to try that yet. Made one attempt do try it by hand, using aluminum rod as my base, but it didn't feed or eject very smoothly.

Sadly the dimensions aren't the same as snap caps or modelgun rounds. Lip is a bit thicker, since it was plastic.

I've also got some other shell-ejecting guns that never really worked yet: an MP5 and a Walther MPL.

I'd love to be able to get help with those!

Fight Designer: Sorry to come up with classicairsoft.net again, but you could submit a request in the "Classic arms bazaar" for the original Marushin metal shells for their shell ejecting Uzi (yes, they indeed made those). They are rare like hell, but there are several members from HongKong or Tokyo around who might be able to hunt some down.

What's wrong with the MP5 and the MPL? Got one of those MP5s myself, which works very well with the original plastic shells but pretty poorly with original brass shells (planning one converting on of my mags, maybe then the real shells will work better then).

edit: sorry for offtopic, if you want to answer, maybe it should be by pm Wink

Somewhere along the line the pressure became too much when something jammed, and the hoses popped off their nozzles, and I tried to fix it and failed... if you want it for parts or repair, put in an offer... I've had to give up.

The MPL I just need to bend the extractor down a bit, as it misses the rims.

PostSubject: Re: Is there Demand for a GBB Airsoft section?   Tue Jan 13, 2009 1:53 pm

Hi...it has been a very long time since my last post...

I vote YES for a GBB Airsoft section - because I'm almost certain that Japanese makers will not invest on completely new modelgun design/mold making (nowadays even a variant of a model such as the up & coming dummy Walther PPK is marketed as a brand new model after their PPK/s and PP - remember the days when MGC release all Colt .45 variants all in one go?). Therefore discussions of GBB is desperately needed here.

Being a HK resident I believe most members learnt that caps are illegal in HK after that Communist-driven Riot more than 40 yrs ago (the HK~British government ban gunpowder altogether so therefore paper caps for the cheap cap guns are illegal as well) so modelguns to us are working dummies/replicas only. For me to experience the blowback action I can only stick to GBBs. Now I fire my GBB pistols more environmentally friendly (charge the mag with gas only - no BBs) by pressing the slide stop down with the thumb when I fire...well, apart from the flame nothing shoots out of modelguns too isn't it and sometimes with an old mag the gas leaks like the smoke just like firing a modelgun (only it's freezing)...

As FlederMaus suggested, I'm one of those who collects quite a lot of GBBs and in terms of pistols, some are just as fine and detailed as modelguns such as KSC's CZ75 and the Hi-Powers from Tanaka. For WA's M4 series, apart from the material used (I'm not too happy about that almost the entire gun including the flash hider is plastic - therefore I don't get myself one) it's just as detailed as a MGC M4. If we don't talk about these GBB guns then I don't think we'll have too much to discuss isn't it? After the WA M4 more exciting GBB longarms are on the market such as GHK's GBB AKS74U - with their one-piece barrel / all-steel receiver / real wood foregrip (it's actually a Chinese D-Boy's electric AK fitted with Taiwanese's GBB mechanism - perfect combination isn't it) I can say it's more realistic than Hudson's offering (and of course it fires way better).

I can say if the Japanese government not introducing the latest 0.98 Joules power limit on 6mm BB guns, then the makers won't turn their attention back to gas blowback which was considered as "too-annoying"with their obvious limits on gas and magazine capacities (most products from Marui are now becoming very unattractive - who wants a low-powered non-blowback BB gun?). And don't forget with the world economies combined with stricter regulations nowadays, there really aren't that many new GBB models around (Tanaka's "Casyopea" is a very sad and short-lived case). So get it when you can...

As things stand, the majority vote is In Favour of a GBB Airsoft section so...

I've been checking how many of you log in each day and it's averaging at about 15 members which just so happens to match the number of votes.

I'll set up a new section today and we'll see how it goes.
