PostSubject: Marushin XM177 Modifications   Mon Dec 08, 2008 11:36 am

Some time ago I posted up some youtube videos published by a Japanese gentleman called"lucifer"
He has made some extensive modifications to a Hudson Skorpion and those titanium MP40 cartridges.

Well he's latest project is Marushin's XM177E2

2 of his planned 4 video series detailing the modifications are on youtube to date. His modifications to Marushins' cartridges look very interesting and I note also he's replacing the Magazine Components with what appears to low friction nylon again.

All looks really promising but I wish I could read Japanese Exclamation

Thank you for that link. I would love to know what he did to the carts. You can often read that polishing the receiver and the bolt may help. I also liked to see his custom made receiver lock pins.

I am quite sure that the magazines and the carts are most crucial. Sadly marushin did not deseign their carts better as MGC CP carts work much better.

I`ve recently had a "fiddle" with this model too.

I`ve long suspected the Marushin Bolt head and extractor claw as being a big problem ...they seem to work fine when a kit is new but quickly wear and performance drops off .

so I did this ( yes I know I should be shot for lack of cleaning this before doing photos Wink )

recognise the MGC M16 bolt head here ?

and with it extended

I used a brass tube to allow the firing pin part to sit centrally , one hex screw holds the brass tube and the other provides a guide for the pin ( where it narrows)

of course this means I use the MGC CP cartridges now , however as they dont fit so well into the Marushin mag you have to modify the MGC mag a little.

So far this fires and loads consistently well and as soon as I feel the urge to clean loads of cartridges I`ll get a video done .

Oh and you have to file down the outer dia of the head a little or it will get stuck in the chamber .

Certainly gives the gun a better kick Very Happy

Great photos Doc, thank you for sharing them Exclamation

It's good to see ideas and successful mods being posted up here for discussion. It can only lead to more modelguns actually working! Now that can't be a bad thing Very Happy

Part #3 of lucifer's XM177E2 video was released on youtube today...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDl5HtVp7HY

Looks like he's got it sorted guys... who'll be the first to get theirs firing like this one Question Question Question Very Happy
Heavily modified cartridges, low friction magazine, new det chamber and pin, custom bolt parts... if I could read Japanese I could see what else he's done...

...If anybody wants one to work on, you can "borrow" mine, as long as it comes back working like this Very Happy

I would buy one if I could get it to fire that way! With all of the time, effort and money this fellow put into that gun, he must surely be selling his upgrade parts?

I first contacted lucifer some time ago after seeing his titanium MP40 cartridges (http://mp40modelguns.forumotion.net/modelgun-videos-f2/mp40-video-firing-titanium-cartridges-t64.htm ) . He's posted other videos on youtube since, his Hudson Skorpion video is well worth seeing too.
Several viewers have asked him to sell them parts but he always replies by saying he doesn't make anything to sell. If he did, I'm sure he's sell truck loads to frustrated modelgun owners worldwide Wink
I invited him to join our midsts but, unfortunately, he's reluctant to do so as his English is very limited. He's told me he does log on from time to time.
I'd like to think that as more and more Japanese members join us they might be able to help him with translation.
We're all dying to know exactly what he's done to get his models working so well Very Happy

Here's the latest installment of lucifer's series of Marushin XM177E2 videos...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UF4Bi_V0qks

Check out his "Real Look" Cartridges... these Fire !

I really hope one of our Japanese members could find some time to translate some of this text... there must be a wealth of information amongst these videos

They're good aren't they Very Happy Question

We'll all have to get our heads together and figure this out scratch

It's nice to know that Lucifer reads the forum's pages from time to time and it was nice of him to mention the forum and myself amongst the credits. The only thing stopping him joining us properly is the language barrier which is a damned shame.
