Marushin M16A1 & XM177E2

Hi all, i'm new to model guns but have got two marushin kits. The M16 and Xm, now i put them both together some time ago, but neither fires very well. I tried again with the M16 recently but it jams after virtually every shot.
Can anyone tell me how to tune these guns so they will fire without jamming so often?
Any help would be great!

Well, from what ive read around here and learnt while ive been around modelguns you might want to do the following:

a) file down any seams on the parts

b) make sure everything is clean and lubricated suitably (WD40 is ok for metal parts but NOT for the ABS as its corrosive, use an oil that you'd use on airsoft guns)

as far as tuning etc, im not entirely sure myself, but that should be a very good start for you.

Thanks for the help.
I lubricated the bolt in the M16, with silicon oil. But i haven't filed any seams. Where would these seams be? in the bolt area or on the magazine or something?

Doubt it'd be in mag, most likely to be the individual parts inside the reciever, all the parts should of gone in easily, maybe you strugged with some, best to check those. You'll probably have to take it apart completely.

Im not the best to give any more advice than that, the rest of the guys will have some better advice for you, more detailed stuff. Just thought id start the ball rolling

Hello!

Do you use 2 caps (a 7 mm and a 5 mm put inside the 7 mm) or only one 7 mm cap and a used one upside down as gas seal?

If you use only one 7 mm cap without a 5 mm or a used 7 mm as seal, blowback effect will be too weak to cycle the bolt.

Hi, i did try putting two 7mm caps in, both the same way round. THough still had jamming problems. Should one cap be upside down?

Hi LDR,

The Marushin XM or the M16 can be a pain sometimes to get to fire an entire magazine with out jaming up for a while. There are a few points that need to be looked at on these models like the magazine which usually has sharp burrs on the feed lips. You can feel that they have these sharp burrs if you depress the magazine follower and feel just under the feed lips.

These need to be filed and smoothed down to smooth out the cartridges friction areas. Friction is a properly functioning modelguns enemy so eliminate it as best you can!

Another place that you should look for a problem is the firing pin spring, i think that they might be a little bit weak and so the firing pin doesn't retract back into the bolt as fast as it needs to get out of the way of the next incoming round.

The friction points to lubericate will show-up as a tiny, shiny, worn spot on the bolt etc. These points should be lubed with silicone oil or grease.

One more thing is to lubricate the internal cartridge wall before adding the cap (I use grease) and you can feel the difference when you push the cap down.
