Repairing a broken Marushin M16A1 lower receiver.

Numb nuts here has snapped off more or less the whole area/part of the lower receiver that the buffer tube screws in to (clearing out the spare room of junk and stepped back onto one of my pfc's!). Not exactly chuffed to say the least . Slight hair line crack on the butt stock near where the stock joins the receiver, but reckon I can repair that easily enough. Buffer tube is absolutely fine, no dents or cracks or bends. Only serious damage is the buffer tube section.

Does anyone know if it is possible to repair the damage by cleaning up both surface joins and using some of that Durafix to bind it all back together. Apparently it's supposed to be ideal for fixing copper, brass, zinc, pot metals, die-cast aluminium and galvanized steel. I'm just wondering whether the metal receiver can tolerate a blow torch being put to it.

It may be possible to repair it using the Durafix rods, but I would recommend first testing the procedure on some scrap Zinc alloy (such as an old die-cast toy car or a cap gun etc), as Durafix rods melt at 732°F, which may be too high for Zinc to withstand.

Zinc based alloys are low melting point metals, which means they melt at less than 725°F (385°C). Zinc-aluminum alloys melt at a slightly higher temperature of between 800°F to 900°F (426°C to 482°C).
