Hi Cliff

The link shown above your post will take you to a scanned copy.

Is there anything in partuclar you need to know that isn't shown on there? Stripdown and reassembly for example?

I was looking at my barrel it's made of aluminum and I don think it's drilled right through is this normal as it would be nice to see some flashes when firing, that is when it's fixed.

MGC68 MP40 Barrels are normally made of Zinc Alloy. Some are able to vent smoke through but there are examples with a solid barrel.
The venting ones have a carbon steel rod cast along the length to stop anyone attempting to bore the barrel out and be daft enough to fire live rounds.
Zinc Alloy wouldn't withstand the pressures involved with real ammunition either hence it's use in these models.

It's still possible to get hold of a vented barrel on the second hand market. Folks converting the MGC68 to Blank Fire specs. would replace the barrel with a steel one.
If you want a vented barrel, try a Wanted Ad in the Buy / Sell section Wink

Here's an example of a vented barrel:

It's highly unlikely you'd see any real muzzle flash from one of these. Smoke, Yes, but caps won't produce the flash you're after.
Short pistol barrels can blow out some yellowish "flame" when using MG caps, while Marushin or "Real Flame" will blow out sparks. Barrels as long as the MP40's might blow out the odd spark but that's about it.
I think many of us have experimented with Magnesium powder added to the cap and while it works great in short pistols, we haven't achieved it with MP40s or similar models.

The Japanese have come up with what seems to be a cap that WILL produce a great flash though. I believe that Special Effects company came up with this. Added to a normal cap and using hollow Detonator Pins great effects can be seen.
Trying to get info on the charge used is nigh on impossible as no-one will gave away their "trade secrets". Shipping caps from Japan can only be done by License now as they come under "Explosives". Unless one of our Dealers can get them it's unlikely we'll get to see them here No
