I remember reading posts about Hudson's prototype M60, unfortunately I can't trace the thread at the moment.
What a pity that didn't ever come to light Smart Dummy Cartridges Icon_exclaim

I'm intrigued by MGC's Smart Dummy Rounds, what were they like jim Smart Dummy Cartridges Icon_question Could they have been similar to lucifer's Type X cartridge Smart Dummy Cartridges Icon_question

OK...these rounds as what I referred as "smart dummy rounds" were first published on MGC's 1991 Catalogue (still keep it because apart from the Catalogue it has detailed info on the M16 both real steel & toys) - basically it looks like a normal 9mm FMJ dummy with movable "primer", then when the firing pin hits the "primer" the bullet will "shrink" into the shell and when it was ejected it looks as if it flies out without the bullet (certain features similar to Great Lucifer's Titanium rounds - the projectile is movable but for different purposes). The primer is the pusher - once it is striked by the firing pin then the "lock" inside the round is released and the internal spring pull the "bullet" back in.

I remembered a couple of years ago a Japanese company called "Independence" remade these smart dummy rounds - but not so popular I believe...

Unlike the shell-ejecting EBB technical drawings I believe I'd posted it up somewhere on Mark's original forum (or maybe other forums as well) with the now-defunct Flickr album...so if somebody saved those images back then, they can help me out by repost it up here now Very Happy ...

Also - I'm the one who posted Hudson's "supposed-to-be" M60 with images of the article from "Gun Magazine" (again on the old forum)...

Sounds very promising. I am very curious how this will turn out.

Proof of MGC's "Smart Dummy 9mm Rounds":

Smart Dummy Cartridges MGC1992
Smart Dummy Cartridges TrickyDummyRounds

It is actually from MGC's 1992 catalogue (suffering bad memory nowadays Mad ) and MGC named these as "Tricky Dummy Carts": a special detonator is need for these special rounds...and no - can't use it on TOP's M4...

Do you know if these Tricky Dummy Rounds ever went into production? I have never heard of them so far.

Don't know really - only seen the ads on Japanese gun mags but not the actual item in HK...must be performing badly that's why the popularity remain low (or maybe it is attractive but then turn away after seeing the price tag - 5 rounds cost some ¥8000 back then if I remembered correctly)...

Amazing....
These were supposed to work with a normal cap, right? Not manual action only?

No caps Smootik - these were "Semi-Dummy" rounds: you loaded, pulled the trigger, then ejected the rounds with the bullet "shrinked" inside the shell...

Read the catalogue again last night - while normal dummy 9mm rounds cost ¥1000 for 6 (1992 prices) - no price tag given for these tricky rounds...and it disappeared without a trace when I got the 1994 Catalogue (the last catalogue before MGC liquidated for the first time). This might suggest that MGC never had these rounds in actual production...

I'll look up the "Independence" ad from my pile(s) of GUN magazines...

Good, I couldn't imagine how it would work with a cap :-)

Thanks very much Jim, I had not heard of this type of cartridge before. I'll take this opportunity to copy & paste this particular subject over to the Modelgun Caps /Cartridges / Magazine category too.
