PostSubject: Real Steel Magazines in Marushin's UZI?   Fri Aug 15, 2008 10:57 am

Does anyone know if the Marushin all metal Uzi will accept genuine Uzi magazines please?
Model mag's are rare but I've found one or two American dealers selling genuine 32rd mags for less than $15.
If they're compatable, maybe we could organise something to get some via our American members? (Assuming it's legal of course!)

UZI magazines are available in Germany without problems as the German Army seems to sell their stocks.

Well, the original magazine fits without any modification. But the spring is much stronger and the feed lips do not allow the Marushin bolt to take a round out of the mag. The Bolt can travel freely but fails to load a round so they stay in the magazine. I do not know if the magazines can be modified, but it should be possible.

Hi MadMike
Thanks for your information. I wonder if the model magazine's carrier and spring are available as spare parts from Marushin?
Maybe they could be inserted into a genuine mag and the feed lips modified?
It'll be interesting to hear from anyone that's tried it.
I'll try Francky asking if he can get mag' internals.
Thanks again

Although I did not take exact dimensions, the followers look identical. Feeding lips seem to be the key.

That might make things easier. If this American dealer cannot export to the UK, do you know if it's possible for me to purchase genuine magazines from Germany, for import to the UK?

Note for John & Mark... I hope this thread complies with your 'modelgun only section? I'm trying to find spare mags for the Marushin UZI, genuine ones may be the answer. If this doesn't comply with your ruling Please move the post to a relevant section.

In Germany you can buy every magazine for every assault weapon, although you are not allowed to use them in your semi auto rifle if you have one.

The real UZI magazine looks exactly like a Marushin one on first sight, so does the Marushin M16 30 rd magazine. Someone who does not know it is for a modelgun canīt tell the difference so I think you can import them int the UK as you are allowed to import the modelgun magazines.

I have only seen the 32 rd mags for sale here. But the 25 rd magazines should be available too as the German Army made wide use of them.

There is no limit or restriction placed on magazines in the uk. You can import them by the hundred if you wanted to. It is the guns that are not allowed, although with some of the rifle mags you can still get the guns in the uk. I would suggest that you drop them an email and ask about the shipping, then get one to try. The main thing is going to be getting the feed lips right, which if you have an original model mag to work from should not be too hard. The magazine will also be more durable due to the proper metal being used for it. Once the lips seem right, you could try stretching the spring and cutting it off to give you less tension, or try and find one that is not as stiff metal. Either way, the spring will cause you problems, as I have always found that the simplest parts (ie. springs) can be the hardest to find! Worst way, use the internals from your model mag and have a far superior magazine.

No problem with this post as you are trying to get the magazines for your modelgun...
As for exporting firearms parts and certain other items (like gas masks!) from the U.S. it seems that I would have to file for export clearance from the ATFE and or other U.S. government entitys no matter what the quantities. Stupid eh?
I thought that we where free to export firearms accessories (with in reason) but, it seems that that isn't the case.
Getting a real Uzi magazine and making it fit and function in your Marushin is a neat project but, I am sure that Francky can find you a spare Marushin magazine if you really need one.
MadMike,
Actually, the Uzi isn't technically an "Assault Weapon" as the term AssaultWeapon usually refers to a rifle caliber, (7.92x33, 5.56x45,7.62x39 etc.) selective fire rifle or carbine. The Uzi is in the submachine gun catagory as it is a pistol caliber firearm.

Thanks to all for your interest and information with this!
Francky reckons Marushin magazines for the UZI are not generally available now.
The US dealer I approached won't export anything, not even slings so that's that avenue gone!
I'll search for a German dealer and try that route, could I ask MadMike to point me towards one if he knows of one please?
Francky suggested using Marushin MP40 mag springs... could work that but I haven't measured the springs lengths yet to compare.
What I'm after is spare magazines really so more rounds can be fired per session so stripping the one and only marushin mag I have isn't an option.
Wouldn't it be nice if we could get the 60+rd drum magazine for the UZI, now that could be fun!

That would be fun and expensive at the same time! Not too mention all of the smoke as well as cartridges all over the room!
I do have to say that there just might be a need for the earlier all metal Marushin lower grip housing as the plastic housings break eventually at the magazine catch "ears" I wonder if the real Uzi lower receivers will fit the Marushin instead of looking for the rare early Marushin part. Also, the real lower has interesting selector markings depending on the country that it was issued in. The Marushin Uzi is the German issued variant.

If buying a real magazine though watch out with paypal, as they will close your account. I have just found this out through selling just a model gun magazine.
So be warned.

Talking of magazines does anyone know where i can get a couple of cheap P99 mags, as pouch fillers? Preferably in Europe, as it sounds most US peeps don't want to deal with the paper work involved.

Thanks!

Thanks for the tip about Paypal, that's worrying especially as the likes of modelguns.co.uk and modelguncollector.co.uk use the system. If Paypal closed your account because of a model magazine the implications are horrendous.

To better news though, I'm fortunate that my Uzi is all metal apart from the pistol grips and foregrip. I'd heard that the ABS ones are prone to failure and apparently the lower receivers are either not available or as rare as rocking horse sh*t

I'm struggling finding a supplier of genuine UZI magazines though. The American sites won't export and I've yet to find one in the UK.

Ah well...

20 GBP for a used one is a tough price. I have seen them going to the scrap dealer here in Germany as the German Army cleared their armouries. Iīll see if I can still get one.

According to all the replies I've had, the genuine mag's should work with a bit of trimming of the feed lips. The spring might need replacing with a softer one, possibly the MP40 one might do.
If you have both model and genuine, I'd be really grateful for your comments about compatability.

Thanks very much again,

Cerwyn

I had a real 32rd magazine. It fitted into the Marushin UZI without problems, but the carts stayed in the magazine as the bolt travelled "overhead" and failed to take the carts out of the magazine. I gave it to a friend who wanted it as deko for his Airsoft UZI. I am quite sure I can get another one. In fact, it is easier to get the 32 rd mags, the 25 rd mags seldom show up.

The 32rd mags would be better really simply because they hold more rounds! I have a Thompson with 20, 30 and a 38rd drum. The 20rd mag is empty before you can blink.

I've 3 x 32rd mags for my MP40 and fill them all up, might still be all over in seconds but boy it's fun!

As the UZI seems to fire even faster more mags should be worthwhile.

Thanks again for all your help

UZI mags from German magazines are sometimes available in Poland on "military auctions" for around 50PLN (~10GBP). This might be a source if you absolutely need them, although international shipping cost is more than the mag (70PLN/14GBP for 1kg, 85PLN/17GBP for 2kg).
