parkerisation

Hi,
We know that cold blueing works with zinc alloys (several examples can be seen on this forum), but is parkerisation can also work?

Here is a quick recipe for "cold" parkerisation for steel or iron:

400ml of phosphoric acid.
200ml of sulfuric acid.
250ml of water.
Soak time : 1 to 2 hours.

But, anyone can tell if it will work with zinc alloys?

Don't be so afraid, the volumes are in metric system! Very Happy

0.088 gal of phosphoric acid.
0.044 gal of sulfuric acid.
0.055 gal of water (or more to enhance dilution)

Hi Dronne

I also worry that Zinc Alloy may be damaged by using acids but do not know for sure.
Perhaps you could try with an old broken zinc alloy part and let us know the results
Parkerised finish would be well suited to several models if it works

I asked for somebody outside the forum, and also suggested him, exactly what you wrote.
It's for an airsoft M3 submachine gun (ics200).

It'll be worth confirming this before taking it anywhere near acids

The Parkerizing process will only work on ferrous metals as it is a 'conversion coating' process. (As the acids dissolve the surface of the metal, the phosphate ions are deposited on the surface).

Please always remember when working with sulphuric acid - never add water to it - always add acid to water!

Good call GZ22 as it's a very important point when dealing with acids.

Both of the acids in the mix will attack pure zinc and phosphoric acid is used as an aluminium etch, so i think it will cause issues with modelguns.
