hi guys

i got a used hudson thompson a week ago, i restored it and tried to fire it
but wasn't good as always. then i changed the magazine from mgc thompson. then i loaded rounds and i tried to fire again, god!! 15 rounds was ejected very quickly. i noticed that the hudson magazine is little bit longer compare to the mgc magazine from the magazine catch hole to the lips, which means the cartridges in the magazine are disturbing the round which is pulling from the chamber by the bolt.
i used the mgc thompson rounds and hudson sten detonator. normal detonator for the hudson thompson is too long, this will cause the feeding trouble. i just wanted to know all of you that i had great experienced Hudson Thompson M1A1 Icon_biggrin

Cool! Thanks for the tip(s) Francky! I will have to work on my Hudson M1A1 soon and see if I too, can get it to fire as well.

Its too bad that the Hudson M1A1doesn't fire very well out of the box as it is one of the best detailed Thompson modelguns out there. (and with MGC gone, It will be the only current production Thompson modelgun.)

I think that my main problem with my Hudson M1A1 is the bolt and the extractor closely followed by the magazine problems. Hudson doesn't (probably due to being cheap) harden their magazines. That, or they don't make them out of spring steel which is a big problem as the feed lips are too soft. When the feed lips are too soft they will deform too easilly and allow the spring pressure to force the cartridges out of the magazine.

I don't know if the Hudson 30 round magazines or just all of Hudson's magazines are simular or not but, if they are all soft, that would be bad...

hi mark,

My magazine is also as the same as yours, lips are too weak.
rounds are coming out while firing. that's not good.
Highly recommend to use the mgc magazine.

Yep the hudson mags are crap, fire 1 round and five more come flying out.
Thats interesting news on the det pin Francky did you have to make any alterations to the pin or does it fit straight away also do the mgc mags fit without any alterations.
Looks like i will have to get a spare det pin as well and give this a try thanks for the info

hi claymore,

hudson sten or ppsh41 of deto will fit or use the normal deto but need to cut a little bit.
magazine is ok without any modification. you had better to exchange the magazine floor too, or last round should be without cap to save the bolt face.

This simple tip could be the answer to bolt wear problems on several modelguns !
Brilliant! Why didn't I think of that before???
Well done Francky!
