Hi guys,

what do you think about the blank ammo mags made by SafeTac?

Their goal is that these mags have a built-in spacer and anti-tilt-follower.

Maybe these magazines are suitable for Ar-15 Marushins?

Any experience?

Thank’s in advance and kindest regards.

Jati

Hi Jati'

Hey, now these mags look really interesting  Very Happy
The front spacer should certainly suit PFC cartridges and the Anti Tilt Follower is a proven benefit in real mags modified to fit Marushin AR-15 / M16 / XM177 models.
These could be well worth trying

I have experimented a bit with real m16 magazines in my Marushin m16

it fit quite OK in the magazine well
height seems OK

BUT the magazine catch needs to be modified a bit to lock properly on the real gun magazines.
not a big deal but, from my testing, a needed modification

Yes, to use real deal mags in a Marushin AR-15 you have to do some modifications:

Either you enlarge the notch of the magazine, so it can snap in, or you have to remove some material off the Marushin magazine catch. I did the last, because it is more practical:

Furthermore I had to remove some material on the top of the real deal mag, otherwise it touches the bolt and can’t snap in. Also the mag spring seems strong and causes much friction.

The main problem when using real deal mags is the lack of the (curved) spacer and an angled ramp for proper feeding. Machining such parts is time consuming.

I think the mentioned blank ammo mags will not work out of the box and without some slightly modifications (including sandblasting and a new paint job).

BTW: SafeTac offers two versions: One for US M200 blank ammo (those cartridges have a total length of 48.3 mm) and one for German DM18 blank rounds, which are 49.3 mm long.

For comparison: Marushin .223 cartridges have a length around 45.3 mm; so the shells will have some play inside such a blank round mag.

Also, when you watch closely, the spacer of the SafeTac mag does not have an angular ramp like the Marushin mags. I think there is no need for such a ramp because of the fact that .223 blank ammo is rounded on its top unlike the Marushin brass shells.

Ok, 20 US bucks for such a mag is not the end of the world, but shipping costs to my destination is 30 USD. 50 in total + fable tax for the pursecutters.

Regards,

Jati

I've just had a reply from Safetac regarding these magazines. I've now sent them details of Marushin, MGC and Tanio Koba .223" cartridges and await their reply and advice on the best suited magazine from their range.
Real mags almost always need some modifications to fit Modelguns. Springs usually need shortening, material needs removing from the top of the mag and mag' catches need some work to fit but it can be done.
Hopefully these Safetacmags will be suitable. The anti-tilt follower and front spacer will greatly help smoother feeding when compared to normal Real mags.
I'll let you know what the manufacturer comes up with. Very Happy
