Another quick vid.  20-rounds in full auto!!!  Hudson M1A1 Thompson full auto 2740960407

This time it's a Hudson M1A1 Thompson, later manufacture, converted to use MGC Thompson carts.  Also has a heavier replacement bolt.  May need to do a little more adjustments on this one to get the cyclic rate a little higher, but still shooting flawlessly!  :Smilie  68:

Very nice  Very Happy There's nothing wrong with that is there?! Lightening the bolt a little would probably increase cyclic rate but the only snag with that is the firing experience is over sooner Crying or Very sad

My own Hudson M1A1 has a steel bolt and uses MGC Thompson cartridges without any problems at all. It's flawless in fact. The last time I fired it it went through 120 rds without any problems at all.

It's this level of performance that actually stopped me buying CAWs new model M1A1 !

Yes, really like the Hudson. It seems it has a bad rep for firing performance, but it can be a good performer with the right setup.

I suppose you are right - prolonging the firing experience is not necessarily a bad thing! That's one of the reasons I don't own the MGC M11 anymore. Neat gun, but the firing is all over in a flash.......and then its time for the dreaded, monotonous cleaning!!!

I have given some consideration to lightening the bolt up a bit, but I think I'll just keep my eyes peeled for an old Hudson recoil spring. I think they were softer with the old Hudsons that used the heavier zinc bolt. This particular Hudson is newer and had the aluminum alloy bolt, so I think the spring is a bit stiffer. I have an old Hudson that currently has the newer aluminum alloy bolt in it and it shoots too fast! That's my frame of reference. I may switch the springs out soon and see what happens - may fix both problems until the alloy bolt wears out.

You went through 120 rounds!!!! In one session???? My friend, I cannot imagine the time you spent cleaning!!! I've discovered about 30 rounds, maybe 40 keeps me from going crazy!!!

That's when I thank the day I bought my Ultrasonic Cleaner and Tumbler Polishing machine. Those two machines take ALL the effort out of cleaning cartridges  Wink

Swapping those recoil springs over sounds like a very good idea, well worth trying.  Very Happy

Looks good mate, the Hudson is not an easy one to get firing right, the mags are the main problem just too thin and weak and cause jams. i think your rate of fire is fine especially when you have it firing well.
