| HUDSON STEN MkII ... Basic Strip Down Guide When I bought my first model gun I had no idea how to strip it down for cleaning and inspection. On-line help from forum members here got me sorted so I thought it might be a good idea to post up a series of Step by Step guides covering popular Modelguns, for Beginners. Before commencing, ensure the Modelgun is clear of unfired cartridges. Pull the Charging Handle back, ensure Magazine and Detonator Chamber are empty.
Step 1. Magazine Removal.
Push the spring loaded Magazine Release Button located on top of the Magazine Well down while pulling the magazine out to the left side.
Step 2. Buttstock Removal
Check that the Bolt is closed and fully forwards in the receiver to reduce tension on the Recoil Spring. Push the release button (A) inwards, remove the Buttstock by sliding it downwards,
The Recoil Spring and EndCap are held securely in place by a steel ring having 2 locating lugs that twist and lock into grooves in the receiver tube. (see detailed photos below)
NOTE: These 2 lugs are easily broken. If stripping your STEN for the first time be aware that if these lugs ARE broken or missing, then once the Buttstock is removed there is a danger that the Recoil spring, Endcap and Retaining Ring will fly out of the end of Receiver with some force. There is a risk of injury or damage to furniture etc, keep one hand cupped over the rear of the receiver tube until the Stock is removed. Step 3.Remove Recoil Spring Apply slight pressure on the Retaining Ring, twist anti-clockwise to release it. Again, keep one hand cupped over the receiver tube to stop the Recoil spring and Endcap flying out. (Refer to drawing above)Carefully withdraw EndCap and SpringRemove Retaining Ring, note condition of the two locking lugs Withdraw EndCap and Recoil Spring and set aside. Step 4. Removing the BoltDraw the Bolt back towards the rear of the receiver until the charging handle lines up with Safety position cut out Pull the Charging Handle out of the BoltSqueeze the trigger to allow the Bolt to move back past the sear, take the Bolt out of the receiver. Here are all the component parts:
Step 5. Remove Barrel Shroud
Unscrew both retaining slot head screws, one either side of the shroud
Slide the Shroud forwards and off the Receiver
Step 6. Remove Gas ByPass Cover Plate Removal of the barrel shroud exposes the Gas ByPass cover. Remove both slot headed screws and lift the cover away
Step 7. Remove Detonator Chamber Simply pull the spring loaded Magazine Well retaining peg up and out of the receiver as shown. The Detonator Chamber can now be pulled out of the receiver. The Chamber and Detonator Pin is a one piece item, the Pin is not removable and no further stripping is necessaryYour STEN is now stripped ready for cleaning, inspection and re-assembly...
