Apologies if this has already been posted: https://www.somersetlive.co.uk/news/somerset-news/machine-gun-used-clint-eastwood-844282

Looks like an MGC 68 by the barrel nut, but I'm not clued up on these?? Were they released when WED was filmed, which was early 1968 as I recall.

Also, how on earth could he prove providence on something like this - that's one hell of a claim........ and why on earth would you hand in something that's legal and with that pedigree - albeit somewhat dubious!! Very odd....

As with all amnesty's it's all about PR and 'seen to be doing something'. occasionally you will get the odd thing handed in that's dangerous, but usually the people using weapons for violent offences sadly are not the ones handing them in.

This post a few years ago is on the same theme.

Ah yap, Id read that thread before. I did recall a London Armourer supplying real weapons for WED, but couldn't recall the name.

...and as you say, in this instance, probably a funded Police PR stunt. No surprises really...I just hope that particular gun hasn't gone on display at the Royal Armouries in Leeds with a Where Eagles Dare providence attached to it....
