Hello together,

I hope someone can give me some answers re. the following questions about the Shoei FG 42.

1. Is it possible to convert the dummy version of the FG42 (Type one or two) into a pfc-version?
2. If yes, what parts are necessary?

The background to this question is:
In Germany some dealers are offering the fg42, Type 2 dummy version of this model. A pfc-version is not available here.
I'm thinking to buy and convert such a rifle. Therefore I'm looking for as much information as possible to find a solution to get a dummy version into a pfc-model (maybe I have to machine some parts).
Maybe someone in this forum can give me some hints or pictures or drawings of the inner parts of a fg42 pfc version!?

I'm looking forward to your answers.
In advance many thanks for your help.

Hi Gecko,

Yes, the dummy-display only, Shoei FG42 can be converted using the Shoei made, PFC kit. I do believe that Francky can obtain one for you as I think that I have seen them offered on Yahoo auctions (Japan) . However, the cartridges are the main problem as the PFC cartridges are rare as they have been discontinued by Shoei (and possibly so have the conversion kits). The conversion kits seem to include the magazine, bolt, detonator and various other smaller parts. Also, I think that the cartridges where sold seperately for addtional cost.

The FG42 is an awesome and it is one of my favorite modelguns. I have videos of the Shoei FG42 PFC firing and it seems to work great!

Hello,

You could also try asking Jay at www.modelguns.co.uk for any suggestions.
I have always found him very helpful and knowledgable.
Good luck!
I would also like to see this video, I'd really like one for my little collection but I can't afford one!

Regards

I have the MP44 Shoei and I emailed Francky
about this and he found out it can be done but
the rifle has to be sent to Shoei in Japan to be
fitted which makes this upgrade very expensive!
It is just not worth it!

Hello together,

today I received an pm from francky. He informed me that with the Shoei pfc conversion kit it is only possible to convert the first FG42 model into a pfc model gun. He talked to Shoei.

Because I will convert the second model, I'm asking you, if someone owns a FG42 TypeII pfc gun (I have a video with a Type 2 pfc model gun, because of that I assume someone has one)?
Maybe it is bossible to help me out than with some information, because I decided to built my own pfc kit for that model.
Questions could be:
1. How exactly is the function of the bolt / bolt carrier (is it a floating system)of the Shoei pfc?
2. What kind of material Shoei used?
3. Is it an open or closed bolt system (or is it both, like the original) they designed?
4. What is the total weight of the bolt system?
5. Is it possible to get dimensions of bolt, bolt carrier, spring and chamber?

It would be great to get as many feedback as possible.

Thanks in advanced.

Hi Gecko,

http://www2.odn.ne.jp/~hak64500/shoei%20parts.html

Note that Francky has all of the parts that you need to get the Shoei FG42 type 1"running"

I know that Jay has a Shoei FG42 (type 1)

Unfortunately, don't have any idea of how the Shoei FG42 operates since I cannot afford one at this time. (perhaps someone will loan me theirs Shoei's FG42 Icon_biggrin )

I personally, would buy the type 1 conversion kit and modify the parts to fit. I really can't see that Shoei would change that many parts in the design. Unless, they decided to make the type 2 closer to the original FG42..

I am sure that Shoei casts the bolt and the other metal parts out of zinc alloy which is pretty much a standard modelgun metal.

I wish that I could answer the rest of your questions but I just don't know the answers myself.

Hello Mark,

as far as I know, the Type I and Type II of Shoei's models are different as the originals are.
The main differences regarding bolt and receiver are:
1. The rear of the gas piston/bolt slide assembly has changed from a round to a square cross-section (at the end).
2. The receiver is changed from a round to a square cross-section where the gas piston is placed.
3. The curved actuating cam slot in the bolt is closed at its rear end and no longer runs the full length of the bolt

These three changes are influencing a possible conversion of type 2 with the use of the type 1 conversion kit!
