7mm Caps Empty
PostSubject: 7mm Caps   7mm Caps Icon_minitimeThu Jul 28, 2022 10:37 pm

Hi all! I was wondering if anyone had a solution to making their own caps or have any caps they'd be willing to sell from their own collection? Thanks! I had a Marushin M16a1 I had just purchased. Any mags 20 or 30 round would be appreciated! Also shells. Thanks! I am in California and it is quite hard for my search to get caps since this is my first model gun. Very Happy

Hello! Nice to have you here.

Getting caps is a real big problem now for everyone outside of Japan. The problem is that no courier allows them to be shipped.

Caps, carts and 20 rd magazines are still available in Japan. Maybe forum member Shazhib is able to help.

The early 30 rd magazine marushin produced in the early 1980s is very hard to come by. It was made from aluminum and almost looked and felt like a real one, whereas the later 20 rd magazine is made from blued steel with an alloy follower.

Real AR-15/M16 magazines can be modified so they work with the Marushin model. The magazine catch hole has to be filed a little and the feed lips need adjustment. The magazine spring is also too strong and needs to be shortened.

Thanks for the reply! Where could I get in contact with Shazhib? Could he assist with getting caps or just magazines and cartridges? I may invest in a real aftermarket mag to tinker with.

I suggest that you send him a PM private message via this forum. You can find shazhib via the memberlist. (See button "members" on top).

I doubt if he would be abe to send you caps to the USA. But he should be able to get you a Marushin 20 rd magazine and carts.

When I am finished selling off my collection I may have some caps to sell.

Hi.
There is a solution to your cap problem.
Get some hold on empty 7MM caps and refill them.
Shipping empty caps should pose no problem.
Refilling can be done by creating a superfine Armstrong's mix , with a minimal amount of binder (<5%) and put it as an emulsified putty inside the cap. You can add some dark German aluminum or magnalium for some extra flash.

It is tedious and a bit tricky to get the right amount in, to avoid cycling problems, but do-able.
Also if making Armstrong's mix is no option, you can buy firing cap reload kits for preppers. They use it for re-using the firing caps of spent shells. It's a two or three component mix. This powder will do fine too. Quite sensitive to shock and powerfull. Same method of getting the emulsified mixture inside the 7mm plastic caps.

Once a method is found to make 7MMS caps or something that can replace them, it would be quite a Rosetta stone in model gun land. It saves stocking up on caps and being overly sealous in the reluctance to actually use them.

Hope this helps.
