Denix Thompsons... Any Good???

Just seen Denix have 2 different Thompsons out.
Anybody seen or own one to comment?

....sorry can't help on that , but have handled their SMLE - totally brilliant .
Wood as per Thompson is some weird hardwood with a sim finish not too bad really and could be upgraded with real surplus woodwork for realism .
Was told this was in production late last year , held up by the big fire they had at the factory on Majorca(Minorca ?) .
These two Thompsons form part of the finer collection of the Ingram , AK47, and SMLE .

(In fact am after an SMLE in any condition if you know of any around ...)

The only one of their more modern rifle replicas I've handled is the AK... got two of those (I do props rentals). The magazine fit is loose so it rattles around a bit, but it looks pretty good and has a nice heft to it. Haven't tried playing with them to see if you can fit other stocks or accessories to them.

I had an SMLE but found it too irritating so had to get rid .

Pot metal nastiness , crappy fake inert mag, parts that should move don,t , all blocked up and unrealistic. IMO.

Still , not bad for the money I suppose , and I got proved wrong recently when I saw someone fit a real steel mag when I thought the dimensions were all different

Also , the AK,s are nice . Probably better than an airsoft as regards realistic weight and feel etc . I would like to have a look at one of the Thompsons if they get here before 01.10.2007 .

Both Thompsons arrived today.

Havent realy had a chance to give them a good going over but for what they are-CHEAP REPLICAS they at first glance do not seem that bad.

Drum mag is a bit rattly and looks as if it has no inards but the windy thing on the front moves.Cocks and dry fires but safety doesnt work.Rear sight flips up but non adjustable.

Finish on both not too bad with woodwork looking like a hardwood oiled.

Version with the stick mag-the mag has innards-spring and follower so may take dummy rounds.

Has the usual FIRE,SAFE etc markings and MODEL OF 1928
NO 2753
on left had side of body and a Made in Spain on left hand side just above the butt

Overall-They aint no deact or PFC gun but still cheaper than a New Spec deact and has moving actions

I see Chris Johnson in Harrogate has a few of both models left , tempting at £120 . I would have liked to hold one before I shelled out tho, and don,t fancy the drive to Harrogate ( all b roads - no motorway )

I emailed RSOV to ask if they would send me an AKS 74U new model with STEEL receiver and they did,nt even bother to reply , I guess that means the shop is now SHUT as regards mail order to UK

They also have a nice weighty Thompson airsoft with metal parts tho, not as heavy or solid as a Marui ( but one third the price !! )

I handled one Thompson recently ...... really poo in my opinion (although I am used to modelguns)

Ideal for a wall hanger to lift off and show your pub mates but as for something to learn about how these things worked ...crap

The stock doesnt even slide off

at this event there was a ten year old kid with one ,he was well chuffed though .

I must admit I got the same impression from a Denix Luger I held in CJ s shop a couple of months back .

Nice from 10 feet away but up close ..nasty . All the lovely close fitting parts and beautiful workmanship of the classic pistol gone , just poor monkey metal nastiness.

I wonder if I ordered now if I could get a Marushin Luger before the door shuts

A guy did a great job modifying his Denix Thompson and does a good review - PLUS another post says that the MGC Thompson bolt assembly will fit a Denix Thompson.

I never knew that! Can anyone confirm?
If it is true, them that opens up some possibilities! ''

My grandson asked for a couple of Denix model guns for his 17th birthday. One of the items he chose was a Russian WW11 era smg. It has a solid wooden stock and it's quite heavy. The Thompson smg he chose was similar in construction and weight. His Denix Thompson is not configured as an M1A1.

As others have previously mentioned, there is an overall sloppy appearance when compared to a pfc model gun made of the same materials.

In the USA either Denix offering sells for about $250.00. For a nice conversation piece or a durable war reenactor facsimile.

out of interest, what was the wall thickness on a real Thompson receiver m1a1 etc ?
