| Post by Mark This is a plate on the buttstock of a (I believe) type 99 rifle. I found these pictures of it on the net and I was just wondering what it says. Francky, Could you or someone else please translate the Kanjji tag on this stock ? _________________ Wanted to buy: MGC Sten MK3....trades?(still) MGC MP40 Marushin MP40 Nakata MP40 TRC MP40 Modelgun manufacturers, past and present:CMC,CAW,Hudson,HWS,LS,MGC(R.I.P. 1960's~2007) Marushin,Marui,Kokusai,Shoei,Tanaka and Western Arms | |

| Post by John Direct translation from Chinese words in first row:
"Experimental Flying Tool" or "Experimental Flying Equipment" or "Equipment of the Aviation Laboratory"
The second row may be the serial number, it's not clear.

| Post by John Yes, it is in Chinese as far as I can see.
The Chinese characters here are traditional characters which are only widely used in Taiwan & HK today. The mainland China used the simplified characters today (in fact from 50s). However, that does not exactly tell this is originated in Japan or China.
There are Chinese words mixed in the Japanese writing. Some carry similar meaning but some are very different meaning though the same words may be used. So I could "guess" a bit ~10-20%of the Japanese writing, depending how many Chinese words are there.
BTW, will this piece of wood be part of a propeller of a flying machine in the old days?

| Post by Mark As it is a "last ditch" type 99, the stock could have had propeller origins (from a wrecked "Zero" or some other type of plane) I am not sure. _________________ Wanted to buy: MGC Sten MK3....trades?(still)

| Post by shazhib I think what John told us is correct. I believe this is Japanese, remembering the fact we used non-simplified version of chinese character back in WWII days. I suppose this was simply an equipment or some kind of experimental gun for one of air force troop. | |
