I use gun oil on all my metal guns, which are the automag, X177 and a few revolvers, but i use silicone on all the other models. As they are plastic or HW (which is mainly plastic i think the silicone is better.

But to be honest if the oil is working and does not appear to harm the gun then i would carry on using it.
