| Someone knows something about MGC trommel magazine for the P08? How many rounds are loaded into this magazine? I know that the original Luger trommel magazine is for 32 rounds. | |

| Hi PPU I don't think I've ever seen an MGC Trommel mag for their Luger before, that is certainly an interesting one! Our more knowledgable members should be able to tell us something about it hopefully. _________________ Cerwyn

| I have already answered. It is possible to load 6 or 7 rounds into this magazine. There is a very rare trommel magazin for 32 rounds. MGC has made few about 40 years ago.

| Standard pistol magazines for MGC Lugers hold 7 rds. So is the Drum section of your Trommel mag' a "dummy" type without working internals I'm looking forwards to learning more about this magazine... _________________ Cerwyn

| I saw one in which someone sacrificed a Tanaka Gas Snail Mag by cutting the "clip part" away and stick it together with the MGC clip - of course it is a dummy for cosmetic purpose only... | |

Reading through articles about the Luger's history, one wrote that the Artillery version was able to accept the Snail Drum mag from Bergmann's MP18 which might explain why such a strange looking mag' was ever fitted into a pistol I think it was actually the opposite. Original snail drum was made for Luger (1908), and it was already in use by the Army. When MP18 was developed (1918), Bergmann wanted to provide "stick" type magazines, but the Army insisted to share common magazine with Luger, as it would make their life easier - investment protection. Bergmann developed MP18 with a fixed attachment for snail drums. It was not convenient - that attachment was sticking out of MP and snail drums with their strange shape were still difficult to transport. For later series of MP18, and for MP28, it was decided to go back to original stick magazine. CAW MP18 modelgun has a socket for stick magazines only. I will try to find in which of my books I originally read about that. | |

| Hi, PPU Your trommel magazine is very good, the condition also fine . Japanese Model gun fan call it Snail magazine. MGC made 2 kind of the Snail magazine for Luger P08. One was real 32 rounds Snail magazine, and the other was only 7 rounds dummy Snail magazine. The price of real trommel magazine was 1000 yen expensive. But 32 rounds loading was very hard by the hand, and no loading tool. The trommel magazine need the loading tool. It is necessary for the trommel magazine. But MGC didn't made loading tool. Without loading tool, we can not load 32 rounds to trommel magazine. And if we could load 32 rounds to magazine, bleach must be not return. The main spring of Model gun is weak. Therefor real 32 rounds Snail magazine was only short time marketing. 7 rounds dummy Snail magazine selling long time. Even in Japan, MGC 32 rounds Snail magazine is very very rare. In the Japans Yahoo auction, I saw only 2 times. I amazing , you have MGC 32 rounds Snail magazine. How did you get the Snail magazine. You are lucky, so please carefully.

| After 7 months in the mail after Royal Mail refused an airmail delivery (unknown to me or anyone else) and sent it by sea - my P08 8inch Luger arrived complete with Trommel magazine! This version is one of the dummy extensions so only holds 7 rounds. Even so, these are comparatively hard to come by. I bought it through the forum off jersey german - a fellow Jerseyman and forum member. Check out his website: www.germanww2militaria.co.uk Damien had kindly included copies of my Film & TV Media letter outlining the nature of modelguns - which it probably why it did arrive FINALLY and wasn't disposed of en route!
