The WE M4 CQB GBB is a fine piece of engineering and replicates the real steel in every way. This model is heavy to handle, and slightly heavier than the real one. It feels solid to the touch with a smooth action and a semi realistic recoil. There have been a few minor problems with the WE M4s. The nib on the cocking handle can break off after a time, the forward release becomes detached, it is not soldered on or screwed with the main forward release. This happened to me on the day I bought my M4 CQB. I contacted the shop I bought it from and they put me in contact with WeTech. I sent them an email at 10pm and got a reply at midnight. (that’s service for you!)
There response was to use super glue to attach the forward release knob thingy onto the main attachment. I googled this problem and others have had the same problem. Yeah – it shouldn’t have happened in the first place, it’s not a big problem considering you can go to steel on this model; it’s just a minor cosmetic that can easily be repaired.
Firing the WE M4 is great fun; it’s powerful and satisfying, but you will need several mags to keep up the momentum. The mags take green gas and CO2, the latter being more expensive, but if you would want to into CO2 it would be worth upgrading to real steel parts and maintain longevity.
There are a lot of small and large well known companies in Taiwan that manufacture upgrades for the WE range – at a very reasonable price. That’s if you live in Taiwan. I would imagine that they would be able to ship to other countries.
Don’t let me put you off purchasing this model due to two the minor problems. The enjoyment outweighs what can be easily fixed. WeTech know there is a problem and will get round to sorting it out.
KJWorks M4A1
The KJW M4A1is not an M4. It looks just like one, but is a Canadian C8. A Japanese bloke called Tanio Koba designed this model. I don’t know how you can design something that has already been designed before. I don’t anything about this person; and I’m not interested in finding out about him. He’s designed other weapons as well that have been around for decades, why? Well your guess is as good as mine.
Anyway, the KJW M4 is just like all the rest of the GBB M4s – apart from the C8 look about it. It doesn’t have a realistic bolt action compared to the rest. It has a rubberish type band around the bold mechanism – which is strange. But don’t let that put you off, this works towards the weapon’s ability to work without any problems. It’s great. You can fire this one all day; load up with florescent BBs and fire it all night! (I haven’t personally done that).
It’s designed to give maximum performance and its built quality is better than its predecessors. Redwolf claim that its build quality:
Quote from Redwolf:
With everything that's supposed to be made of metal it's metal and to our surprise, using a neodymium magnet, everything from the sears, selector switch, firing pin, outer barrel, stock tube, receiver pin, mag release, delta ring as well as the bolt release latch is made out of a ferrite metal which narrows it down to some form of steel. Don't think this is relevant yet? Compare this with the bolt release of other variants that use pot metal or probably metal looking cheese, the internals on this KJ M4 is designed to last. Props to KJ Works for using proper materials.
That’s one reason why I bought this model. There are not many after service parts for this model compared to the WE M4. But, Process have produced a steel front kit (barrel) for the KJWorks M4, Priced at $210 USD. It can be changed into a C8 CQB or an M4A1. Anything made out of steel is going to more realism longevity.
