Here's my first attempt at re-bluing. Not perfect (yet) but well on the way (compared to it's original condition yesterday.)
Thought some people might feel encouraged !! ??

It's wearing a K98 Mauser sling.
Next job is the detonator pin - I've found a small bolt to plug the hole in the Nut.
And I might keep re-bluing until it's much backer looking

Thank's to Cerwyn again for ideas and comments.

Thanks Smootik.'cheers' I'm very happy with it.

Cerwyn, I used Perma Blue Paste by Birchwood Casey Labs USA.

Re bluing Steel parts Bluingcompound

Usual application for 30-60 seconds; wipe with dry cloth; polish with fine steel wool; and repeat until dark colour is achieved to suit your needs.
I used Meths to clean each time, between applications, to remove dust and fingerprints.

Then lightly oil when finished.
The best oil I've found is called Incis (sp?) Oil - used in WW2 to oil Sten Guns I've been told.'Idea'

One of the longest lasting penetrating oils I've come across. Not sure how easy to get in the USA or UK.

This is already good enough John Very Happy ...you need some kind of "vintage" feel on your good old MP40...and the upper of your piece haven't turned "purple" (mine does)...

You could be right Jim!

I have to kick my need for perfection!

I'm just ecstatic about having got one (MGC MP40) so soon after joining the forum - and grateful for the tremendously helpful people here!

I've learned heaps so far - and always so much more to be learned! And glad I can contribute a little.
