| Inspired by Momcampo's painting of the grip straps on his Colt SAA, I decided to touch up my Navy Colt - only this one is metal not plastic.During a long, wet, cold Auckland winter, this was one of several Modelgun projects undertaken to occupy my demented mind..... After the usual removal of paint with acetone, sanding and rubbing with steel wool, two coats of grey primer were applied before painting three coats of metallic gold! (Wet & dry sanding between coats) The end result is pretty cool don'tcha think? - Especially when compared to a real 1851 Navy Colt:Kiwigunner | |

| Great job Kiwi!! Well done. For information, I do it again because the paint doesn't stay. So ,I have put a special metal primer (Tamiya metal primer) and the result is really better. Some photos soon Another time, your Colt are really beautiful like this, I always try to find money to buy one. | |

| Hi Momocampo, The Colts (yours and mine) sure DO look pretty!
I think the paint will come off easily because the the frequent handling of the grip and trigger areas. - even if primed and with several paint layers. One solution I have considered is to paint a final two coats of a clear lacquer - but I am unsure of the best one to buy, I'll do some research and let you (and the forum) know what I discover. A bientot!

| Thanks kagero43 Glad you like it! It's a great modelgun. I'm making a presentation case for it, along with some real accessories. Post in due course! I think some of the modelgun pistols deserve a special display! Problem is, like most forum members, I'm running out of room! And the females in the household seem to start bleating like our Kiwi sheep if I seek more storage space!...... Kiwigunner | |
