Hey guys,

just wondering if the MGC is front venting, or if it is like the Marushin and vents to the top?

customs Australia don't like front venting!

That is a good question and although I have spent some time with the MGC M16 I can not tell. As far as I can remember there were two versions how the barrel was attached to the upper receiver. The earlier version could be modified to allow smoke venting from the chamber through the barrel.

EDIT: I am talking about the early, full metal (zinc) M16 model. There were two versions regarding the barrel. One version is blocked for sure, I am not sure about the other version.

I am not sure if the barrel was completly blocked.

Hi Josh,

It will probably depend on whether the M16 is a metal or ABS model.
I've a full metal MGC M16A1 which has a completely blocked barrel. I also have MGC XM177 and M4A1 models in ABS and HWABS respectively. Both these have vented chambers that will allow smoke to pass through the barrel.
The barrels vent straight through but have the usual flat metal bar running along the length to ensure no projectiles can pass through.

Marushin use a different gas-bypass chamber that allows smoke to vent through the barrel but there is no clear, straight pathway from chamber to muzzle making it absolutely imposible for projectiles to travel through.
