| Subject: Zinc Alloy/What does it mean exactly? Sat Aug 31, 2013 10:32 pm | |
| Hi guys.
Some modelguns (e.c. made by MGC) are build of "zinc alloy". In my understanding "zinc alloy" is plastic alloyed with zinc.
Can somebody tell me what plastic is used (e.c. ABS) and how much zinc is mingled?
I am looking for the best glue suitable for zinc alloy model gun parts. But I am doubtful what kind of glue i should choose (maybe glue especially made for metal because of the zinc, or should I better take some special glue for plastics?).
I found a glue for repairing zinc parts but the manufacturer tells that glue is not suitable for ABS.
Some help of you guys would be great.
Thank's in advance.

| Hi JatiMatic, Zinc alloy means, if i'm right, Zinc alloyed with other metals (Zink-Legierung). So, maybe you'd better to use a bi component glue? Or cyanocrilate glue? Unfortunatly, these cement won't support any stress. | |

| It's probably zinc-aluminium (ZnAl), which seems to be fairly popular for die-cast parts. Some internal parts of mechanism are just steel.
Glueuing is not easy and seems to work just for looks. If you are firing the model, vibration and stress make glue give up :-/

| I agree with Dronne and Smootik. 'Zinc alloy' is usually a term that refers to a metal that comprises of Zinc, alloyed with Aluminium, and often with a little Copper too (such as Zamak or 'Monkey Metal'/'Pot Metal').
You should be able to use the adhesive that you have found without any problems, provided that it does not come into contact with any ABS parts of your modelgun.
As a point of interest, do you have any information on the adhesive that you have found?

| I think you are getting things mixed. Zinc alloy is a "Leichtmetalllegierung". This is used with the Marushin M16 series.
I think you are talking about the Heavy Weight Plastic. This is not a metal alloy. It is just some zinc powder mixed into the plastic granules. I think the palstic and metal parts do not compond, so the zinc powder is weakening the plastic, but making it look and feel more realistic and heavier. After all it is still plastic.
Not sure which glue is best, maybe our Japanese members can help here, but I am quite sure it has to be a glue for mainly plastic.

| Yes, it was my mistake: I do not mean zinc alloy, what I mean are the components of "Heavy Weight Plastic". Sorry for that confusion.
BTW: I did not find any glue that is able to connect heavy weight plastic parts together in a stressable way. It makes me want to tear my hair out!

| Ah, sadly heavyweight material is very brittle and hard to put back together, as plastic+zinc granules do not make for a uniform material :-( | |
