Good isn't it As I understand it, they've used an electric shell ejection / blowback system probably based around TOP's M4 system to achieve this. If you listen carefully you can hear the electric motor working. There's a video of this M249 and an MP5 using electric drives for shell ejection taken at the Japan Blowback convention this year here:

Thanks for the link Cerwyn! Looks like a meeting I'd really like to attend, too... Tanio Koba himself approves of this gun, that must be a great honor for the guy who built it
Yeah, you're right, probably based on the TOP M4 system. Still, I reckon there are some amazing mechanical skills involved to have the gun actually "break apart" the belt and eject the shells and the links seperately.
At the moment, the TOP M4 would be the only electric airsoft gun I'd be interested in, but this M249 would jump up to priority-1-to-get-my-hands-on, if it ever was released officially

There are some superb engineers and model makers over there in Japan, no doubt about that! I would also jump at a chance to attend this annual meeting
There are cap firing, belt fed modelguns in existence, there's an M249, MG34 and an AR-15, all custom built

It even sounds good and elctric always perform well and no cleaning after but if it was put into production i think it would be hugely expensive, which is always a bummer.
