Every owner of a Marushin XM177 E2 made out of a kit knows the problem: To keep prices low Marushin deceided to use a plastic made, quite shiny flash suppressor on its XM177 E2 Carbine. The early versions 20 years ago had a all metal flash hider instead.

But there is a cure. Guarder ( www.intrudershop.com ) offers part # M4A1-09, a flash supressor in XM177 style with positive 14 mm threads, fitting the Marushin Carbine.

Finally, after 6 weeks my order has arrived. The flash suppressor comes in two parts, which means one can assemble it without the ring on its bottom right behind the frontsight, making a XM177 E1 version. There is also a small rubber washer which should be placed right behind the thread on the barrel.

The Guarder part is great! It is exactly the same size than the Marushin part, looking VERY realistic, with a realistic dull black finish. It is of very high quality, adding a lot of realism to the whole gun. It fits without problems and adds more weight, balancing the whole gun a little better. The steel parts weights 150 gram (instead the 26 gram of the original plastic part).

It costs around US-$ 50, but I think every owner of a Marushin XM177 E2 should think about affording it. I am happy I did.

Excellent, thanks for the info i will most certainly look into getting one of those.

Just trying to get my X177 to work consistantly, it fires the round OK and will eject but i am getting a lot of jams. i have used 2 and 1 caps with the old cap as a seal with 1 cap it ejects the round but does not feed another for some reason.

I am getting somewhere with it though as it would not eject before, now it ejects but jams.

Hi Madmike,

Thanks for the review of the Guarder flashsuppressor! Of course, the earlier Marushin XM177 owners have the zinc flashsuppressors already but, this might actually look better than the originals..

Does the muzzle of the Guarder flashsuppressor have the correct internal "taper" that the Marushin lacks?

The Marushin factory flashsuppressor has a recessed muzzle (basically a hollow tube) that doesn't look correct.

claymore, you do grease the cartridges internally don't you? Usually the jamming problems in the Marushin M16's are caused by lack of bolt velocity due to frictional losses..

If the caps energy isn't being properly utilized to "blowback" the bolt, the bolt "short" travels and doesn't have enough forward velocity to properly chamber the round.

The ejection is the same, if the bolt isnt traveling rearward with enough velocity the round won't be ejected with much power hence the jamming problems...

So, just be sure to lubricate the cartridges and the action properly, as I have had rather good luck with my Marushin XM.

Madmike、やあ、

Guarder flashsuppressorのチェックをありがとう!もちろん、以前のマルシンXM177のオーナーはすでに亜鉛flashsuppressorsを持ちます、しかし、これは実は、オリジナルよりよく見えるかもしれません..

Guarder flashsuppressor

Hello Mark!

I would like to post pictures but I do not know how to do it yet.

You can check http://www.intrudershop.com/show_product_eng.asp?idproduct=15 - there the suppressor can be seen. It is exactly the part I received from Intrudershop.

But the Guarder part is internally the same as the Marushin part, just a tube. I do not know how the original suppressor looks, I am sorry.

BTW, I have not yet given up my dream owning an early factory assembled Marushin XM177 E2 (with 30 round magazine and zinc flashsuppressor) one day.

But I am glad I bought the kit. I did not regret it a single second.

Now there a some Marushin Pistols to come ... Steel Flash Suppressor for Marushin XM177E2 Icon_wink

I checked the pictures of the flashsuppressor in the link that you provided but, there is not a view of the front so I couldn't tell what the muzzle looks like on the Guarder.

The original XM flashsuppressor has a cone shaped muzzle just inside of the front flashsuppression slots. So, from the front, you see a cone shaped small 5.56mm opening instead of the large, almost completely hollow Marushin flashsuppressor..

so, if the Guarder flashsuppressor is just like the Marushin, that's too bad,as the original design looks so much better!

I wish that Marushin would re-introduce the 30 round magazines as they would be a great seller. I am not sure why Marushin discontinued them but, they where aluminium and they might have cost too much to make them..

Mark, i lube the case with normal gun oil, the grease you talk of i have never heard of over here, the next time i go to the gun shop (for shotgun carts) then i will check out what grease they have and give it a go.

Where exactly do you put the used cap i put it in after the metal plug and before the live cap, is that right.

Also the pin that holds the hammer in place comes loose so i dont know if this causes a problem in how fires.

As i built this myself i wonder if it needs more tweeks to get it to work well. My rounds also take a hammering and have some bad dents at the base but seem to still work ok.

Well, you don't have to use the exact grease that I am using but, it works great for me..

Quote :
Where exactly do you put the used cap i put it in after the metal plug and before the live cap, is that right.
Ok, here's what I do to load the cartridges,
1. I put the grease in the main body of the cartridge and then,
2. I put the "metal plug" (piston) into the cartridge with the beveled part facing the case mouth (where the bullet would be)
3. I then place the live cap in the cartridge and seat it with the supplied Marushin tool.
4. then, I place the fired cap into the cartridge with the open part (where the powder was) facing the live cap and the "hole" in the fired cap facing outwards. (this can be tricky to do as the fired cap doesn't want to fit in backwards)
5. Place the pin (on the cartridge bottom) into the hole in the fired caps bottom and screw the cartridge together...Done!

Ok, as for the hammer pin, have a look at the instructions again, you will note that the hammer pin is ment to go in one way in order for the hammer spring to be captured properly.
If the hammer pin is installed backwards the hammer pin will walk out of the receiver.

Thanks for that mark, i knew i was doing it wrong. As for the hammer pin yep, i have probably got it the wrong way round, i knew it had to be something simple but that never occured to me.

Will give all of that a go and let you know results. Thanks again

Mark, thanks again for the advice on the X177. Idiots guide i know but it worked the old cap ploy works well also did the hammer pin, thanks for that.
Now the gun is working far better (no jams) sometimes a cap fails to fire but that happens on most of my models at some time, otherwise it is working great.

That is what this forum is all about solving problems like this, i really had given up on the 177 as everytime i fired a round it jammed. Now i am lucking forward to some time to put more rounds through it. OH!! for a 30 round mag.

Thanks again Mark for the help

Hey,no problem claymore! That's what the forums for! The fact that the modelgun instructions are printed in Japanese is the main problem,as we have to "stumble" about and discover these little bits of information for ourselves!

That's great that your XM is working now I figured that something was wrong with your XM but I had no idea what it was at first...

They can be really fun to fire as the knowlage that they are all metal makes the differance.

As for the Marushin 30 round magazines, good luck!

Something new about me and my beloved Marushin XM 177 E2:

After replacing the plastic flash supressor with the steel part from Guarder there was still something left I did not like at my Marushin XM 177 E2. It is the annoying rattle and wobble of the lower and upper receiver. First it seemed that a custom part for real AR-15s, the "Accu-Wedge"-device may be a cure. But Mark bought one and tested it for me to find out that it sadly would not fit the Marushin.

Recently I found a retired mechanic and engineer. He is the uncle of a friend of mine. I showed him the Marushin XM receiver and he started measuring it. He was quite upset and told me that it was crap in his eyes. The diameters of the holes in the lower and upper receiver were different, both not fitting the front and rear receiver lock pin exactly. He then told me to leave because he did not want me to see him hurting my beloved gun. He drilled the holes in the lower and upper receiver to the same diameter. Then he machined two new lock pins out of stainless steel. I have to say he is a great craftsman and his work is excellent! The pins look and work exactly like the original, but the receiver does no longer wobble or rattle when it is closed. I am very happy now. It was a great work and he did not even want money from me as he had seen the joy in my eyes. But I bought him to bottles of his favorite wine just to show how thankful I am.
The only thing different to the original pins is the color as the new (stainless steel) pins are in silver color. I think of painting them black, but the shiny silver pins give the gun a great finish. It looks a little like the silver lock pins on the real Oberland Arms OA-15 M4 Carbine, so I will think about painting them ...

Now I need to find an aluminum 30 round Marushin magazine for my XM 177 E2 at any cost. I really love this gun more day by day Steel Flash Suppressor for Marushin XM177E2 Icon_biggrin

I should finally learn how to post pics into this forum, then I would be able to show pics of the new receiver lock pins.

Yours

Hi MadMike,

Sorry that I haven't been around lately! I have been busy and getting things done (I think)

That's great news on the Marushin XM! The new take down pins are a great idea and certainly better than the accu-wedge (which does fit, but doesn't tighten up anything!)

I think that the stainless pins can be chemically blackened (somewhat simular to Birchwood-caseys "super blue" method ) if they begin to look not quite right to you in the future.

I am sure that the pins make the Marushin feel so much more real than the wobbly feeling out of the box,-stock-Marushin feel.

I wish that I could find somemore Marushin 30 round magazine too as we could all use more of them!

The Guarder flash hider sound great and I am sure that it make the gun look much better!

You might try www.photobucket.com they have free photo hosting and it is easy to learn how to post the pictures(even I can do it! Steel Flash Suppressor for Marushin XM177E2 Icon_lol )

wow nice work.

Just to add, it is possible to fit any airsoft flash hider and silencer/supressor unit to a model gun, providing it has the right thread (usually 14mm negative.

http://www.wgcshop.com/pcart/shopper.php?cat=Attachments%20for%20AEGs

This page shows a lot of flash hiders and other attachment units for airsoft assualt rifles, and providing they have the correct thread as your model gun, they will fit your replica assualt rifle too Steel Flash Suppressor for Marushin XM177E2 Icon_smile It is best to check before ordering however. Hey Claymore!

Nice to meet you! I hope you are doing fine.

You are right, he did an excellent job. But he was quite confused as he had no experience with fire arms and he thought the gun would be real, beeing stamped "PROPERTY OF US GOVT", but finlly I could convince him ... Steel Flash Suppressor for Marushin XM177E2 Icon_lol

I think it is great that so much impetus comes (back) from Airsoft. It is proven that Airsoft is killing the modelguns, but in my case it went the other way. I started with Airsoft and wanted something more realistic as I never liked the motor and gears of the AEGs.

I am very glad that I can meet so many nice people here in the forum.
On more rainy Saturday afternoon I am visiting the forum and playing with my XM 177 E2 ... Steel Flash Suppressor for Marushin XM177E2 Icon_wink

Same with me, I can't stand the sewing machine style noise of AEGs, but i like the fact you can play with other people at sites with them. So they are quite different really.

Hello rizzo!

Welcome here to the forum. Yes, you are right. The problem in my case was that I finally had not enough time to go out and play Airsoft with my friends at all. Due to legal restrictions most players here in Germany play abroad.
So I wanted something realistic I could spent my time with at home. I started a few months ago with the Marushin XM 177 E2 kit as I have always loved the original Colt Commando. I have also some Marushin pistols.

Greetings

nice Steel Flash Suppressor for Marushin XM177E2 Icon_biggrin There are a few sites close to me in the UK, so i have the best of both worlds really. Some airsofters ask me what is the point of PFC model guns, they don't fire anything. They have obviously never had the pleasure of firing off an entire magazine and being surrounded in a cloud of smoke. fantastic fun Steel Flash Suppressor for Marushin XM177E2 Icon_lol

Yes, the modelguns are a "blast" they help many people to understand the real fiearms action and give that extra realism that only the modelgun can provide.

Also, even though I can own many real firearms here in the U.S. modelguns are quite fascinating to me and I can shoot full-auto in my house!

Modelguns may not be understood by many people, but, they still have a following that ensures further availability for a while..

With tighter and tigher gun laws here in England, PFC models are going to get far more popular as they are completely safe and uncapable of firing anything Steel Flash Suppressor for Marushin XM177E2 Icon_smileSteel Flash Suppressor for Marushin XM177E2 Icon_smile But whether Japan will recognise this is another matter

Hi MadMike,

I hate to tell you this, but Super Blue won't blue the stainless parts..

In my comment on blackening stainless using chemicals, I was using "Super Blue" as an example only.

There are other products intended to blacken stainless but Super Blue will only slightly dis-color certain low grades of stainless and not even react chemically on other grades.

There is a simple and cheap way to blacken stainless (I found this on the net)
oil it very sparingly(any edible oil)
then heat it slowly to max.4oo C
repeat if need..

There are other chemicals available to blacken stainless but, you might try the suggestion above first.

Oh, that´s bad news ... Steel Flash Suppressor for Marushin XM177E2 Icon_confused

But perhaps I can use the Supe Blue for something else one day.
I am not sure if painting will be a good solution as the pins will be moved in and out of the receiver, requiring some force. So paint won´t last too long, I am afraid.

MadMike,

I am sorry if I mis-lead you about the Super Blue! But don't worry, you will use it I am sure, as it works on zinc and steel and I am sure that you will find some scratch that you need to blue..

It is nice stuff to have around!

I will look around for some infomation about blackening stainless as I will need to blacken some myself soon..
