Just looking at the Tanaka USP, modelguns.co.uk offer a conversion kit for it to fire their 'real-look' 9mm cartridges (scroll down to see the kit).

http://www.modelguns.co.uk/hk_usp.htm

The cartridges fire a 7mm cap, as oposed to the 5mm cap the tanaka cartridges fire. The kit includes a new recoil spring, which i assume is slightely stiffer to counter the new higher power cap.

my question is, will the rest of the gun be able to handle the higher power from the 7mm cap? thanks guys Tanaka USP "Real Look" 9mm Conversion Icon_smile

rizzo, i have the USP and the conversion kit. First off i had it fitted for me me as the spring does not work properly out of the box (so to speak) go figure.

Well the conversion did work but i got loads of jams, one of which broke my barrel, now maybe i did not lube the pistons enough (but i dont think so) and i have ended going back to the old 5mm rounds. The conversion kit did just not impress me and the old rounds work fine.

As to power i think that the 5mm are just as powerfull as the 7mm, i think the charge is the same.

Give the conversion kit a go by all means, you might get on with it better than me but i will stick to the old style.

I'll stick with the old style Tanaka USP "Real Look" 9mm Conversion Icon_smile But you'd reccomend the USP by itself?

The USP is a great looking gun and it does fire well. The rounds are a pain to load as the piston and cap go inside a cylinder first then the cylinder goes in the case, hence why i bought the conversion kit.

That apart i do like the USP and i would of bought it before the Glock if that had been on the market at the same time.

Just read what mark said about the USP and known problems, trouble is all these plastic models will break in the end as the there is a lot of force in the blowback action.

I dont know how much stronger or reliable the glock may be, it might be worth asking Jay at modelguns what he thinks about the 2 models although i dont think he has seen the new version of the glock yet.

I still like the look of the USP and i have had breakages with MGC models as well.

Now that i am using silicone to lube the rounds with any luck the gun will not jam and i think the jamming is what causes a lot of problems.
I put 2 mags (so 30 rounds) through it a month ago and no problems, so yes i would reccomend it.

I have the USP(ABS) i like it and i really like the rounds that Tanaka supplies with the gun eventhough, they are a "pain" to load, they are an excellent design and with the proper maintance they will continue to work for a long time. The major downfall of the Tanaka rounds are their O-rings they are hard to handle as they are very small and the rounds are expensive and sometimes hard to locate (well at least here they are) But, all-in-all it's a great modelgun and worth buying.

I would say all Tanaka modelguns are worth to collect. Collect them all if you can. Tanaka USP "Real Look" 9mm Conversion Icon_lol
Their cartridges are fairly easy to buy here. They could also be used as display dummies as they just look great.

John, you are right about the Tanaka cartridges, they are perhaps the best looking supplied cartridges of any manufacturer. They certainly look more realistic than many of the other cartridges on the market.
