| Post by kickback Hi I think i have put this in the correct section. I like most of us was totally cheesed off with the Tanaka usp continuesly breaking being it the barrel, trigger, slide etc so i decided to use the Tanaka internals and fit them into an airsoft usp compact body. The Frame side of the mod was quiet easy as the Tanaka parts simply fitted into the frame with only slight adjustments, and the pistol grip bottom had to be filed down to accept the Tanaka mag ( here is were i wished i had taken photos along the way?). The slide was a different matter altogether and needed alot of mods for it to work as a modelgun should, the breech was simply unscrewed from the airsoft version but it had to be carefully "broken" out of the Tanaka version and filed to fit the airsoft slide. The slide runners and slide slots had to be adjusted so the slide came far enough backwards to pick up a round from the mag (airsoft blowback action does not go far enough). The barrel, guide rod and spring all had to be cut back ( i'm working on a full open barrel version now) for it to fit the compact slide ans all that was left was to test fire it....and wow it worked great so far i have put about 6 mags through it without any problems and most of all no breakages so it was worth the time and effort. I used the Kaun ju works usp for my mod but this has no trades on the slide so i will try another next time. Here are some pictures of the finished model. This was a great project to do and i will see what one i can use next time Kickback | |

| Post by Mark That is awesome! Nice job too!
I think that there are a few other metal USP slides out there that have the trademarks but, they are fairly expensive. I think that for myself, that I would be happy with the un-marked version due to the cost perspective as it's the firing performance that I like not just the looks. _________________ Wanted to buy: MGC Sten MK3....trades?(still)

| Post by jez_JRP Good work The KJW model makes a good "donor gun" for such projects. Fairly sturdy but alas, no trades. Still, they're cheap as chips so nobody's going to shed too many tears if anything goes wrong. The cheapest metal slide/barrel set for the USP compact with trademarks is a nasty "Taiwan no-name" pot metal affair for about $60 US. They're incredibly brittle and lightweight, and the trades are painted on, ffs! I wasn't impressed with them at all - the KSC M9 I bought one for was actually better off with it's standard heavyweight slide. It weighed more and felt/sounded a lot better! I actually had several players ask me which metal slide I was using, after firing the pistol with it's standard ABS one Needless to say, I cannot really recommend these. They're cheap for a reason. The next one up would probably be the Shooter's Design stuff. At about a hundred dollars more, they are milled aluminium with proper engraved markings, available in black and silver, threaded and non-threaded barrel options. If you wanted to do a seriously sexy custom job then silver & threaded barrel gets my vote! I have used their products many times in the past on many different airsoft pistols and they're by far the nicest in their price range. Kickback - if you want to do something REALLY outrageous, find a way of fitting a Hudson DE's internals inside a Zeke full metal DE bodykit. If I didn't have bills to pay I'd already be breaking out the Visa and the dremel... mwahahah | |

| Post by Spencerman Hi Kickback, I was planning on doing a similar thing but just have not found the time. For some reason I cannot view your pictures, so I cannot see how it looks. I was curious about how you said that the slide doesnt return far enough to engage the round so that you had to lengthen the grooves. I was wondering if maybe you could elaborate for me a little. As far as metal slides go, if you were to go down that route, then I think you will find that these are the most realistic slides that you will find, that have proper engraved trademarks, and proper etched metal stampings etc. and serial numbers. http://www.tokyo-model.com.hk/trade/productview/2606 http://www.tokyo-model.com.hk/trade/productview/2008 http://www.tokyo-model.com.hk/trade/productview/2619 They are also not too dear considering the price of some parts. _________________ | |

| Post by kickback Thank you guys for all the great support its nice to know some poeple apprieciate a good modelgun lol Spencerman with regards to the slide, what i meant was the slide travel on the blowback airsoft model does not travel far enough as on a real pistol so when it was converted to a modelgun i had to lenghthen the slide runner groves and shorten the frames front runners ( i don't know the correct term ) so that the slide would travel far enough back as to clear the mag well opening as to pick up a round from the mag and eject the spent case. I hope this doesn't sound to doubledutch but english was never my best subject Cheers Kickback | |

| Post by kickback Cheers spencerman for your kind works ,yep i agree with you its a shame about the trades so i have just purchased a kws version with full trades and i am going to do another one.The compact curved mag base would not fit onto the Tanaka modelgun mag so i had to use the standard base which was a shame perhaps the kws version will be a bit better. I will post some pics of the kws version when it is finished....so now i'm off to butcher another Tanaka usp for the parts... Kickback | |

| Post by kickback I did think of that but the block is so intricate (as i do still want the firing pin block etc to work) that it was out of my capabilities to make,so the only other option is to use the modelgun one I have a spare barrel from Francky and i am going to see if i can mod this a bit better this time and remove a large part of the metal plate from inside. As for selling this one....sorry if i was to sell it,it is already spoken for.. Kickback | |
