Just came back from work from Japan. Seen tons of modelguns and airsoftguns there but modelguns still interest me more than tha airsoft ones.

They are very well made, replicate the real thing in every way. But the downsides are they are not cheap, you can almost buy the real ones here with the same price you pay for modelguns.

I would still prefer my Bushmaster M4 and my Glock 21 here.

Hi there, welcome to the forum.

I see you have just come back from the Mecca of the modelgun world. I hope to make it out there myself someday!

Yep, these models can indeed be expensive. Supply and demand I guess. But in so many ways they are worth it, even if you end up spending your spare time tinkering to get these babies working smoothly.

In the UK, I guess what we end up paying for is a safe way of pursuing our interest in firearms in the comfort of our own homes. Hi I am new here... Icon_smile

Vernonsmith,

Welcome to the forum!
I hope the days in Japan for you was nice one. I totally see your point why you need to bother paying almost same amount to a replica where you can get the real one. One of way you can enjoy from modelgun is Full-auto.

I think a law or regulation is very strict even in US, especially, machine gun related. You need to apply for license and pay extra tax right?

I suppose some of US members here in this forum focus more on full auto capable modelguns (i.e. Thompson, MP40, M16 series).

If you have any queries, the members from the globe will help you.

Regards,

For me modelguns are about having safe prop guns to use for theatre and film, for indoor use without being too loud, etc.

While I could buy a real Remington 870 shotgun for cheaper than a modelgun version (and it'd be much sturdier and more reliable!), you are correct- with full auto firearms that's not the case. Not only do you need the $200 tax stamp per weapon, and the extra background check, they are of very limited availability (have to be made or imported prior to a certain date I believe, for civilian purchase to be legal), which means they cost in the tens of thousands of dollars. You can also get types of modelguns that are illegal here, like sawed-off shotguns. Even silencers are restricted and expensive (again with the $200 tax stamp too) here, when on real guns.

I am also a new member to this wonderful site, of which i also recently discovered. I am a proud owner of several real firearms as well. But i agree with Shazhib. What attracted me to this hobby was the potential to acquire replica subguns. Real ones i can not acquire nor afford. For instance, i recently purchased a MGC S&W M76 for about $400 greenbacks. A real one would cost me about $6,000 for weapon alone, not to mention permits or permission.

Anyway, just sharing my thoughts
