| Post by Hayden120 I've been looking at model guns for a while now but I'm pretty sure they're illegal in Australia. I've been trying to find out how to import one but it seems like so much effort that it's not worth it (you need a firearms license and many documents and there are tonnes of restrictions). Then I found this website and found a few posts about a guy in Australia who owned model guns. I would really like to know how he got them.
I am most interested in a MGC M4A1, so if anyone can help me with this I would greatly appreciate this.
Thanks,
Hayden

| Post by Mark Hi Hayden,
Welcome to the forums!
Sadly, it does appear at this time that Australia is still prohibiting the importation of any replicas, model and airsoftguns. So, it does appear that the only choice that you have is to find someone that has models already in Australia and buy from them.

| Post by IndyTaz Hayden, G'day mate. I'm a fellow Aussie too. I seem to be having the same problem. Maybe we can put our heads together and figure something out? You had any leads? Personally I just lost a near full metal Pulse Rifle worth $500 USD and a resin S&W HE 2...I am quite annoyed. They were destroyed:( Regards TAZ | |

| Post by fightdesigner Man, that sucks!
I'm sure there are loopholes for those involved in re-enactments, museums, or theatre/film, right?
Maybe if it comes to the point of destruction you could try to give your babies up to someone like that instead? I know some folks in Sydney who are involved in film and theatre fighting (they run Sydney Stage Combat), but I don't know about the rest of the country. _________________ Freelance hack... and slash, and gun.

| Post by Ozguns Hi, I've been watching these forums for a fair while now, and I thought I'd like to finally participate. There are a couple of laws which apply in Australia. In some states, like New South Wales and Victoria, replica model guns are illegal, and you need a permit/license. Queensland and I believe South Australia, replica guns are allowed, but I'm not sure to what extent the law goes.
Here in Western Australia, we are allowed to own them, or any de-activated guns of any sort, without any permit or license. But.....no more replicas are allowed to come into the country. What is already here, is it! Customs have banned all importation. If you carry a replica in public without a lawful excuse, then you'll get nailed. But the same goes with screwdrivers, knives, basball bats etc. If the police think you are up to no good, and you have no reason to carry these items, then you will get charged as if it were a weapon. So what it boils down to, don't be silly with them, and treat them for what they were originally intended. For personal fun.
Now having said that, I own.... MP40, M16, AK47, Thompson, Uzi, various rifles incl de-activated, and about 30 or so hand guns.
Dan. | |

| Post by IndyTaz That sums it up fairly well Dan. Tasmania is basically the same as Victoria although I think they are a little stricter personally. Sounds like you have a great collection. Lucky you. Care to share some pics? Regards Christian | |

In about 1996, I decided to start collecting replica guns, after I bought my first 2, years earlier in 1980. I looked around in the local papers, but got nothing. I then placed a weekly ad in the local free ads magazine we have here, and they slowly came in. Because a lot of people thought it was illegal to own replica guns, I reckon that's why I was getting them for between 50 and 100 dollars. When my MP40, M16 and Thommy came along for $100 each, that's when I thought that I pretty much had what I wanted. I had one guy once who had a luger, peacemaker with holster and belt, and a 22 German blank firer, all with boxes, and he was absolutely shaking with fear when he said to me "Is $100 too much to ask?" I snapped them up straight away!! So, what I'm saying is, try swap meets, garage sales, and Military swapmeets.

| Post by Ozguns Do you have some weekly Trader type paper?
Anyway, my ads were simple like:
Wanted replica guns. All types. Contact.....
Then I became more precise:
Wanted replica guns. Jap made Military types only. (this was to avoid the cheap Denix flintlocks etc)
It got me my collection. Believe it or not, some people might still want to get rid of them because they don't want to get "caught" with an illegal gun. Best of luck.

| Post by Hayden120 Hmmm, I doubt there are still many model guns floating around; they would've been secured by lucky owners. I live in Victoria so I think its illegal to own them anyway, so you wouldn't be able to advertise them without getting in trouble. Really a bummer, the things I would do to get an MGC M4... | |

| Post by Jim Hi,
I moved to Sydney when I was 9 and lived for 14 yrs before coming back to HK 3 years ago - so I consider myself an Aussie...
I too fell victim of the anti-gun government and I've to praise the Australian government by working out the confiscation the other way around (at least for pistols on every state except Qld, WA & SA)- banning the replicas first (because it'll be easily mistaken...) and then the real ones (the reason is obvious...)
Please correct me if I'm wrong - but this is what happened in NSW.
Earlier another forum member Weekf bought a MGC M4A1 domestically - when this model were made 2 years ago the custom's importation ban had already implemented for over 10 years...so is the M4 smuggled into Australia?
Maybe this is the deal: they ban you from bringing in the guns but once it reaches the soil then it is legal - because this is the Customs and the Border Security's fault?!
I appreciate the fellow Aussies to clear my doubt on this one (for other doubts I'll ask John Howard myself as how he can stays longer than some Communist leaders...)
