Are mag loaders really necessary for modelguns though?
So far, I haven't really had any problems filling big mags like MP40 ones with 32rds, UZI 32rds, Thompson 30rd stick mags as the springs are relatively weak.
Sure enough the last couple get a bit tight but there's no big rush to load quickly.
There's nobody shooting at me at the time so an xtra couple of minutes won't hurt!
Are there mags out there that need loaders?

Mag loaders are not essential but do make life much easier.
I have a Marushin MP40 and M16.I have mag loaders for both.M16 rounds in stripper clips go in the mag in seconds.Much easier then manualy loading each round. With the Mp40 not any quicker as each round has to be inserted one by one.

No the mag loader is original and very rare.
A Sten or Vigneron mag loader will do the same job and much easier to get hold of.

HEH HEH I hope you realise this means... WAR!

I'm that lazy I get my girlfriend to load up my mags mate!

I may well have misunderstood something with hindsight though...
I thought a mag loader was, in effect, a little lever that pushes the mag's spring down far enough to allow easy insertion of the next round into the mag. You still have to load each round individually?

Stripper clips on the other hand, will allow you, with the correct attchment / adaptor fitted, to push 10 rds in in one easy movement. That would certainly save time.

If the aim is to fire off as many rounds as possible to enjoy the guns then possibly the best way, although not the cheapest, is to get several mags for each gun, pre-loaded, then bang 'em off in succession!
Trouble is though, with SMG's anyway, the det pin has to be cleaned after about 50 rds anyway so the gun has to be stripped regardless.

As for our shootout mate... I'll see ya behind the bike sheds at dawn... bring your 'second', your choice of weapons, I'll be waiting, with lots of guns, and lots of pre-loaded mags!

A MP40 mag loader is a device that pushes each round into the mag,a M16 loader is a little device that attaches to the mag then it allows you to insert stripper clips-the clips cannot be used without it.Very very handy.
Unfortunately modelgun mags are very expensive.I have 7 original M16 mags and was told when i bought my M16 that they would fit-they dont.I also have 6 Vigneron mags which are almost identical to MP40 mags-they also do not fit in my MP40

Hiya Richard

Reading through the many posts throughout the forum dealing with M16/XM177/AR15 and all the derivatives, magazines have been discussed at length.
Apparently MGCand Marushin M16 receivers are different so mags aren't interchangable between the 2, real magazines will, or should, if memory serves me right, fit the MGC but you had better check through the forum posts to confirm that.
Mark and MadMike are very clued up on these...

The SA80 mags (real ones) WILL fit in Marushin receivers with a little modification to the locating hole in the mag's side. This is a 30rd mag and so has lots of benefits!

Thanks for your info on the mag loaders... I thought I had the right idea how they worked!

Have a look at this thread about M16 mags...

Getting back to mag loaders though, yes I agree that a clip on device to take a stripper clip would be really useful for quick loading. You still have to feed each round onto the stripper clip first though so I still wonder if there's much to be gained.

Please correct me if I'm wrong here, I'd hate to make an arse of myself but, during conversations I had awhile ago about genuine mags, mag loaders as used for MP40, Stens, Vigneron SMG's are a necessity because the effort required to push those last few rounds into the mag against a strong magazine is quite strong.
A mechanical device is needed to push the spring down and hold it there.

As far as I can see, the spring pressure in a modelgun mag is much less making it easier to fill a mag by hand.
My ever suffering girlfriend has complained that the 28th .45 round going into my MGC Thompson stick mag is making her fingers hurt, the 29th gets tougher, but she's getting stronger fingers now

With prolonged use, the springs to tend to get weaker, they sag in effect so loading gets easier with time. The downside is that once the spring gets too weak it won't feed properly!
Never leave your mags full, always empty them before storing or the springs will compress and weaken. Same goes for the bolt action spring. Leaving the gun cocked for long periods will weaken the main spring too.

I do believe that these are the H&K manufactured magazines. They don't have the magazine catch hole on their sides anymore. They just have two raised areas around the former catch hole. These are great and well thought out magazines..But, they are very expensive. Magazine loaders are nice but again like Cerwyn states, modelgun magazine springs have fairy light tension and they are east to load compared to the original magazines!

I wouldnt think that modelguns need magloaders as they are not original mags thus springs are a lot weaker. If you are going to use your original sten mags regularly then i would highly advise it.I have various deacts and a couple of modelguns-20 rd original m16 and slr mags are easy enough to hand load as is the mag that came with my marushin mp40 but hand loading original sten and vig mags is a totaly different matter.

I have just tried my Vig mags again into my Marushin MP40-they WILL NEVER fit and to prove they are NOT the same size as original MP40 mags my original ww2 MP40 mag loader will NOT fit onto them but will fit onto the Marushin mag.
