Hello everyone, my mane is Mike and I’m new to this forum. Looking forward to finding out as much info on MP40 as I can. From the info I read so far, it looks like I’ve found the right site. I have some questions.

Can the 68MGC MP40 use a real MP40 barrel?
Will a real MP40 Firing Pin Bolt & Spring Recoil System work on 68MGC?
I realize to actually put these parts in here in the US is illegally so this question is only for reference.

Hi Mike,

Not sure why you would be asking these things but here are some answers.

can the MGC 68 use a real MP40 barrel .......NO ....Because the front trunnion section on an MGC is not hollow like a real MP40.(and also made of zinc)

Will a real firing pin ,bolt and recoil assembly fit into an MGC.........
NO.... the receiver is made too small (not small but internally too large as Mark corrected) to allow these to fit.

If you were thinking an MGC MP40 receiver could be used to make a live weapon the answer is...........NO !!
Both dimensionally and structurally it is not suitable for this.

Hello Mike, welcome.

I can understand a little why you may be asking that sort of question. Real guns parts are made a lot better than model ones, and if it is authenticity that you are after then obviously the more real parts you are able to use the better, but as has been said there are many modifications made to model guns to stop you from doing that. Just look at the automag, desert eagle or m16 variants and how they fire and you will see what I mean. All of these weapons originally use a rotating bolt to eject the shells from the gun, whereas all model versions (with the exception of a handful of really expensive m4 copies) do not have this feature, and use an extractor. This does very little to the cosmetic appearance and the models fire relatively reliably, but they do not fire 100% correctly. As has been mentioned, stick with the basics like sights and grips and stocks, but be warned, sometimes these do not fit either

Hello and welcome to the forums Mike

One of the un-written rules on this forum is not to discuss illegal things like possible conversions as it would be both detrimental to you and the modelgun hobby.

The Japanese companys like MGC that designed these firearms replicas (modelguns) carefully and with painstaking details to prevent them from being converted into firing guns.

The MGC MP40's receiver is correct as far as its external diameter goes, it is the correct size so magazine housings etc. will fit it. The internal dimensions are larger thus preventing parts interchange from the real firearms.

Besides, the materials used in the MGC "68" are far too weak to be used for conversions of any type...

I enjoy these modelguns as they are quiet, interesting and that they allow us to collect replicas of rare firearms that are often hard to find, expensive and illegal in some countries.

Sorry for asking these questions. The last thing I want to do is give the MD gun community a bad rep. I have no desire to spend ten years in prison.
So is it hard to get parts for MGC MP40? Also, on Gunbroker.com there is someone selling a blank firing MP40 Gun. I’m not sure what it is but it looks like maybe a real one that’s been converted. There is no indication that you have to have a special license for it.

The reason for me asking these questions is that I do WW11 reenacting and some of the guys have real MP40s. They shoot blank 9mm rounds. They also happen to be class 3 legal. I just thought it would be nice to be able to shoot real blank 9mm rounds threw the MGC MP40. When running around in the woods, it would be hard to pick up the brass casings that the MGC shoots. I guess I’ve been dreaming and thinking too much.
I’m still very pleased to be able to own a MGC MP40. This gives me the chance to own a piece history.

Again, let me apologize to the model gun community for asking questions that could be harmful to the hobby.

Mike

Most of the "blank firing" MP40's that you see elsewhere are actually Marushin MP40's that people have Intentionally or unintentionally labled as blank firing mostly due to their mis-understanding of the term.

There is infact a legal blank firing MP40 on the U.S. market that fires 9.3mm blanks i think that the link for the manufacturer is www.ssroom.com they haven't released the MP40 yet but, it will be a fun gun when they do.

The main thing is that newly made and un-registered blank firing machineguns are illegal in the U.S. as they are considered real guns by the ATFE. It is dificult to get replacement parts for the MGC MP as they haven't produced them in Japan since 1977.

We are a little careful on these forums to avoid any feelings that we condone any illegal activity on this site that affects our hobby.

Well done. That was handled very nicely. Hopefully the new guy is wiser and keeps himself from a first hand tour of a Federal hotel.

I think the main thing here is to avoid any temptation to modify any modelgun beyond coverting them to use other modelgun cartridges etc.

People are attracted to firearms like the MP40 and others for many reasons especially here in the U.S. as hollywood as well as the T.V. is full of war movies, action "flicks" etc. that "advertize" guns that fascinate us for whatever personal reason.

Most people in the U.S. have a fuzzy to a non-existent knowledge of the laws and regulations governing firearms in the U.S. they just want the guns that they see. Alot of the problems originate from the government itself as our firearms regulatory agency the ATFE, seems to make up laws on its own without congressional approval. This creates a minefield for the average firearms enthusiast as the laws are constantly changing as the agency tries harder to justify its existence. Many government agencys are like this as they are under constant pressure to show results from their activitys.

If the ATFE feels that there is a need to regulate the replica guns in the U.S. even further (especially if they find that some-even one-modelgun has been succesfully converted to fire just one round of actual amunition) That would be very bad for us MGC MP40 collectors as well as all of the other all metal modelguns if the ATFE decided to ban them "for our own good"
