Hello Rick,

I wish I could find fine modelguns like this in lofts Wink Value can be influenced by whether or not the model is a cap-firing or a display only model.

Display only models were produced by MGC for the export market. Typically they'll have drilled barrel nuts going right through the chamber, the barrel may be plugged and have no Detonator Pin, the bolt face will be ground at approx 45 degrees to prevent cartridge feeding from the magazine which results in a non-firing model. Receivers were ofter cut from the Magazine well towards the barrel nut too.

For photos and tips on identifying if it's a dummy or not, have a look at this category:
If you've any questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask

i took some pics of the bolt face and chamber, nothing seems ground or drilled, unless i'm not looking in the correct spot, 9mm dummy rounds fit in the magazine perfect and it will chamber the round.

Thanks for the additional photos Very Happy

If you compare your bolt to this photo of a cut/ground bolt, it should clarify the bolt type you have
**Sold** MGC68 MP40 **Sold** 1-7
**Sold** MGC68 MP40 **Sold** 3-5
Early type Unground, cap firing bolt:
**Sold** MGC68 MP40 **Sold** 5-3

Later type Unground cap firing bolt:

The critical areas here for fully functioning cap firers are the feed rails (either single or twin as shown) and a flat recessed bolt face. Without these, cartridges can't be extracted fully from the chamber... more often than not, they can't feed cartridges from the magazine either.
If your model chambers 9mm dummy rounds (with solid bullets), then it's a safe bet there's no Detonator Pin in the chamber. What you may have is this set-up:
**Sold** MGC68 MP40 **Sold** MGC68_MP40_5
**Sold** MGC68 MP40 **Sold** MGC68_MP40_6
How does yours compare to these please Question

finally took the picture we wanted to see? looking at a unground cap firing bolt with flat recessed bolt face? still trying to figure out the feed rail? so, confirm this is a cap firing model?

Yes indeed, that's a good condition, looks unused, cap-firing bolt Very Happy

I've replied to your PM about the last things to check i.e. Det.Pin, Drilled Reciever and Barrel Nut etc ...

no holes drilled, took barrel off, chamber is open (see through from the muzzle end), nothing blocking it, and the barrel has a metal strip / rib tacked in there but doesn`t look like much holding it there.

Hi Rick

Perfect, that's definately a cap-firing MGC68 MP40 Very Happy All you need to complete it is a Detonator Pin and suitable cartridges.

Don't attempt to remove that bar from the barrel ... it's an anti-tamper measure, carbon steel bar cast into the zinc alloy die cast barrel. Any attempt to drill it would see the drill skidding off and breaking out through the barrel wall. The model will still vent smoke from the muzzle with that bar just as it is.

You've got yourself a nice modelgun there Wink
