These are the five all metal (Mac is ABS) MGC replicas that I found in a box full of broken parts at a prop house in Los Angeles last month.
I know they are kinda "boring" models but I was like a kid when I found them, it was the treasure trove kinda scenario we all think about.

I should have bought the whole box as there was enough to make a bunch of Mauser replicas from, but these five were as much as I could excuse. It was a very large box, with lots of rubber weapons in it too, I'm not allowed any more props at the house and I don't really have time for projects.

The cosmetic finish is rough on these, but they are basically very good condition as they've been in holsters for twenty years or so. The action/mechanics are very tight and solid.

I've photographed them alongside some real guns for comparison, although you guys probably don't need the reference I thought it would be fun to compare.

The two 1911's are quite different, one seems to be a model 80, like my real one, the other is similar to a WW2 era model, also like my genuine example.
I have several sets of real 1911 grips but they are much to long and the screws are in different places, which sucks, any suggestions on replacing the broken badly painted ones?

Because our laws are pretty tough over here now, and they are not allowing any more imports, those MGC/RMI guns would fetch at least $350-$400+ here now.
They sold a lot of te RMI ones here.

These say MGC on them, but I guess they could be RMI, I don't know to tell the truth. I'm up for swapping for a PPK with the slide/trigger action if anyone would prefer a M27 Smith or 1911 to their Bond gun?

I'd sell these to you Oz if you could make half that back per gun, but we'd have to work out how to get them to you, ha. Just joking, I think these are going to get used a lot, besides one can never have enough 1911's.

The silver disks on the grips look like the RMI logo to me. But it doesn't really matter anyway, as MGC made the RMI guns.

I was busted by Aussie Customs when a BB Gun was sent to me as a present from someone in South Carolina. I had no idea it was coming, and I was warned not to ever try importing a prohibited import again. What a joke! No idea it was coming.

Silver discs on the 1911's say RMI, well done, I didn't even look that closely, until you pointed it out, and they don't say MGC on them, only the revolvers say MGC on the metal.
I'm not really familiar with RMI, I presumed they were MGC.
Thanks Oz.

Figaro, have a closer look at the grips on the revolvers. I'd be willing to say that they have the RMI logo too, as I have some of these myself.

I think I read on a thread here somewhere, that MGC made the RMI guns for the Collectors Armoury.
I believe that a fair few of the Aussie shops used to import them from the Collectors Armoury, so that's why we have a had a lot of the RMI guns available here. But now that they are banned, the remaining ones in circulation fetch pretty good prices.

That box of goodies you have there are a good find!!

No one else think the difference between the 1911 replicas was interesting.
Mad Mike had asked about the difference between the series 80 and the 1911A1 army in another thread, it looks like RMI/MGC at least took a shot at making them different.

Dear Guys,

Forgive me for adding my 2 cents. I see this question and am asked all the time what the heck the letters say on the grip discs. They do indeed represent a stylized RMI. This stands for Replica Models Incorporated. RMI was founded in 1968 as three companies. RMI, CA, and a third whose name escapes me right now. Replica Models Incorporated, sold the replica Guns, CA (Collectors Armoury) Sold the military stuff, which was at the time GENUINE WWII surplus as well as some reproductions, and the third sold real guns. They still do, by the way. In 1989 or so, RMI and CA became one, and they took the Collectors Armoury name. They were always headquartered in Virginia, Originially in Alexandria, but now in Lorton. Thier guns were made by MGC, Crown, CMC and Maruzen, or Marushin...Maybe Both. (Everyone always assumes ALL the RMI guns were MGC...not so!) I think Thier contracts called for generic or no markings, but some have them. My favourites are the guns (RMI R-100 series) 1873 Colts marked "MGC Manufactory" and the .45 auto (RMI R-300 Series) pistols (Early Ones) with the word Caliber mispelled. "1911a1 Auto Pistol Caliver .45" Those guns were good guns all. The finish was indeed a blued finish too, but of moderate quality.....I know this because I was buying these in 1968.......and ever since A Fun Find Icon_smile

Cheers,

Gary V. Caprio

How about the old '.45 Cariber' on the MGC 1911's? I used to deal with Collectors Armoury waaaay back and remember that the Head Honcho or Chairman had the initial JFK. I wrote and said that I seemed to know those initials from somewhere and he replied that he didn't know of any other people with the same initials??? I also dealt with Collectors Armoury of Canada and it took me nearly 8 months to get a Madsen SMG from them even despite very costly 'phone calls to Canada.

Looked at these again...

The .45's are marked 1911a167 .45 caliber (spelled correctly)

The Python and Smith and Wesson replicas are all marked MGC on the frame, but all have RMI discs on the grips.
