I have a chance to pick up a MGC mp40, it's in pretty good shape but the stock pivot pin has been repaired and the front grip has been reinforced with some epoxy. Are parts still available for these? If not, would original/reproduction mp40 parts interchange? It's being offered up for $350 US. Is that a good price? I've looked at the other/cheaper MP40's on the market but they seem to be made up of mostly plastic parts and I would rather have a full metal model.

Thanks,
Jayrbenz

MAN!! dont even hesitate BUY IT! that is a bargain and i am sure you can sort out the little faults it has (mark can advise you on that) and if you dont want it, who is selling it as i will buy it.

I did have a site that sold bakerlite parts for the mp40 that would fit the MGC i will try to locate the web address.

Actually the more i think about it this is not a good buy for you and i think you should put the seller in touch with me.

Go for it! I just bought an early model for $450, which is still a deal. If you can find one (any kind) for under $600 you've got a deal.

Found this site in the US that does reproduction grips, I expect there are plenty of others you can get spares from.

The repro front sight cover looks interesting as it seems to be a weakness on replica MP40's.

Hi jayrbenz,

Welcome to the forums! The MGC MP40 is a classic MP40 modelgun that is collected all over the world and they have been out of production since 1977 or so. I have the re-production bakelite forearm on my MGC it is nice and it looks good on it but, it is more flexible than either the original MGC or the original MP40 forearms.

Also, the original MP40 forearm screws threaded into steel inserts that where pressed or formed into the forearm during manufacture. The re-production "bakelite" forearm doesn't have or need the inserts as the forearm screws thread into the "Bakelite""inserts" other than this small detail, the re-production forearms are great!

At $350 that is a great deal for a MGC that isn't missing too many parts!

Thanks for the welcome everyone. Mark, it was your site that started me down the model gun road and led me to this forum. Awesome site by the way. Anyways, I'm going to go ahead and pick up the mgc. Any ideas about the stock pivot pin? It's functional right now but the repair is visible. I would also like to get it set up to fire pfc carts. From what I’ve read I'll need a detonator and maybe a new bolt. Did all the mgc mp40's have the bolt milled flat?

Thanks again everyone,
Jayrbenz

Hi jayrbenz,

Thanks for the complements on my site!

When you say that the stock pivot has been repaired, could you describe how it was repaired (welded? etc) I would think that they are so simple they could be made out of un-hardened drill rod (or simular) To set up the MGC MP40 to fire 7mm caps, you need the proper parts like an un-cut bolt, a detonator for the cartridge type that you wish to use and an un-cut chamber. (and the proper cartridges of course)

It would be best for you to post pictures of your MGC MP40's bolt and chamber then, i can make a better list of the parts that you need for the conversion.

I think the pin was replaced then he used a cap head screw to hold it on. You can see the screw on the right hand side. I should have it in hand pretty soon so I can figure out what I'll need to get it up and running. After finding out more, I guess he was the original owner and bought it in 1973, if that means anything.

That is a beautiful MGC MP40! Although, it does have the interesting but inventive repair on the stock but, that doesn't detract from it in any way and i think it can be repaired if it really does bother you. Anyway, that is easily worth what you are paying and it is worth much more. The original MP40 sling and the original collectors-armory paper work is cool too!

Thanks Mark! First point of order would be getting it set up firing pfc's, but it would be nice to fix the stock also. I'm supposed to be getting a pic of the bolt today to see if the face has been milled off or not. Do you have any ideas for the stock?

I really would have to get some detailed pictures of the stock to make a determination on what needs to be repaired or replaced in the stock assy..As for the detonator, i can make a stainless steel detonator for the Marushin MP40/Uzi cartridges for you as i have made them before for my MGC MP40 and my MGC Sterling. As for the bolt, if it has been milled well, it can possibly be repaired but, i really haven't tried to fix one yet so, i really don't truly know if it can be done.

Here is a picture of the bolt face. Will I need to find another or will it work for pfc's.

Great news! That is the proper bolt (type 3) that you need for the conversion to the PFC cartridges. So, all that you need is the detonator for the cartridges that you decide on (like the Marushin MP40/Uzi cartridges).

Sweet! I guess it comes down to which carts are the least expensive and most plentiful. Would one type be better then the other? Can you suggest a one-stop-shop for carts and caps?

Well, i use the Marushin MP40/Uzi cartridges in my MP40 and they work great with one cap as well as some grease inside the cartridge. The Marushin cartridges are plentiful and less expensive than just about all of the other usable cartridges..Check with Francky1958...
