| Post by GZ22 I'd like it if anyone is able to let me know exactly how/what changes are made in order to render a Remington pump action shotgun as a deact. The reason I ask is because I'm wondering if it is permissible in UK law to turn a deact into a modelgun?
Your thoughts and info are as always, very much appreciated.
Regards,

| Post by 8ace I think that no modification of any deact is permissible in the UK in anyway shape or form (except cosmetic... stocks/grips/sights etc....) | |

| Post by GZ22 Well. I suspect that's more than likely to be the case, but I'm not 100% sure. I'm thinking that seeing as a deact is no longer considered to be a firearm once the Proof House have certified it as deactivated, and as long as it remains in a condition where it cannot fire projectiles of ANY kind - but I'm just not sure to be honest, hence the question. You see where I'm looking at the law on this one? | |

| Post by 8ace It should be the case as a deac is as dangerous as a frying pan (wood and metal) unless you go waving it around an airport, but the laws on firearms deac or otherwise are strict and clear-cut.
I have always found the MET police firearms a helpful source of what is OK under UK law (well they should know) | |

| Post by GZ22 Thanks for the tip - I'll seek further advice from my local RFD also, as I'm still intrigud by the pharse "Firearms so deactivated and proof marked, are no longer subject to any of the conditions or controls contained in any of the Firearms Acts or Rules."
Thanks again,

| Post by Doc If you do anything other than cosmetics to a deact it renders the deactivation cert invalid and therefore the gun is no longer considered deactivated in the eyes of the Police.
The Law is pure black and white on this to prevent any "grey loopholes" that could be abused by crims looking for a defence.

| Post by GZ22 Doc - many thanks for this advice. I also spoke with my local RFD this morning and he confirmed the same thing. He said that even he wouldn't be allowed to carry out the work, as it renders the deactivation certificate invalid. It's a shame really, as I'll end up paying way more for a modelgun that I would for a deact! Not to worry though, at least I know my modelgun will be legal!
Thanks for all your replies.
