Meaning : what state of readiness are they in ?

Looking at pics of Police with their MP5s / and increasingly G 36s here in the UK at ports and RAIL /AIR terminals etc I was wondering if they carry the weapons with one in the chamber /safety on ?

Or is that considered too dangerous ??

Does anyone know ? Same question for holstered pistols .

Also , I read somewhere UK Spec , Police Heckler and Kochs were semi auto only ? Can anyone confirm ?

Thanks

I know that the MP-5's carried by British police are semi-autos only.

A note on G36's, scroll down to the last pic.

I don't know if British police would carry their guns with a round chambered, but in my opinion that is the only way to carry it. Mechanically there isn't anything dangerously in carrying a chambered round.
N.D's are an operator/training issue.

I might suspect that there are variations, some units might have access to full-auto capable weapons and might carry with a chambered round.

My 10 cents...

I can answer this.....

they do have a round in the chamber.. and its on safety... they do this because they can flick the safety and its live.. if they needed to cock a round then hit the safety the chance is they are dead by that point... they are there for a reason... and its not a joke.

as for police holding the pistols clocks etc... well the same thing.. they are ready to fire.

I shoot with alot of armed responce officers...

hope this helps
