Subject: Attaching a Sling to a Sterling Tue Aug 11, 2009 2:16 pm
Having managed to find a nice genuine sling to add to my MGC Sterling, I now need to know how to attach it correctly
Can anyone give me some guidance please
Thanks in advance,
Sling Attachment Method

Cerwyn, Can I ask what the going rate is for the sling? I have one in the same condition I might as well sell as I don't have a sterling. GF

Couple of quid-no more than a fiver i would estimate-same goes for Sten slings.

STEN slings are inexpensive, £3 at most usually although some places ask a bit more.
Sterling slings were (are) more expensive when I was looking for one...
on e-Bay today there's one at US$8.21 and another at US$21.26(Buy it Now price)
I actually paid £4.10 GB Pounds (US$6.73) for mine

I always thought that "Patchett" was the official name that nobody really used, while "Sterling" became a widely known nickname. Are there technical differences?

The SMG was designed by George William Patchett, the then chief designer at the Sterling Armaments Company of Dagenham - make what you will of that..
As an army medic this was the weapon we were issued with during my time, it's most popular attributes were: It always got tangled in camo netting. Whilst leaning over a patient the SMG would slide over your shoulder and hit the patient on the head. It was known as (amongs other things)- Sub Machine Gun, Smudge, Small Metal Gun..

Of note, in the UK the Sterling SMG was issued with a sling, 2 magazines and a bayonet with scabbard, the bayonet was the same one that had been issued with the No5 Jungle Carbine..

In Actual Fact, The replica MGC SMG is a Canadian C1.....Not a Patchett.
