| I saw this back on the market on Gunbroker.com an old MGC M16. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=144200724Does anyone have any experience with these? Do they field strip like a real AR? I’ve been looking for a Vietnam era M16 which field strips, has real weight, and can hopefully take real AR mags. Marushin’s looks to be the best. What is the most realistic Vietnam M16? | |

What is the most realistic Vietnam M16? If you look closely on the pics you can see that where the forward assist would normally be there's a screw, that screw holds the lower and upper receiver together, thus it won't make for a very realistic field strip. The Marushin i own (XM) is quite accurate, the bolt carrier and bolt is what differs the most in my opinion. And of course there isn't any gas tube. | |

| From what I've seen on www.modelguns.co.uk the Marushins field strip the best. But I've been told they're not real metal or weight? | |

| The Marushin M16s are made of Zinc Alloy, with some plastic parts. Only difference between the modelgun and real M16s is the metal's Zinc, not Steel.
As you'll know from past discussions, the Japanese manufacturers are forbidden by Law to use steel to make replica guns. Marushin M16s replicate the internal firing mechanism far closer than early MGC examples, but they omitted the gas tube for some reason. As for weight, Marushin's M16A1 scales at 2.8Kg unloaded. I'm not sure of a real one's weight but early MGC models weigh a hefty 3.7kgs unloaded, compared to their HWABS version at 2.3Kgs. (All these weights come from www.Modelguns-Worldwide.com site) If you wanted a model M16 as close as is possible without breaking a Law somewhere you'd need to look for a Hobby Fix model. Extremely rare, very very few were ever made I believe but as beautiful as they are, prices run into the thousands of US Dollars. _________________ Cerwyn

| I thought the real M16 receivers are made from aluminium As for my preference I love the Marushin M16A1 some of the parts don't fit when building the kits and they can be a pain to get firing well but for looks/feel they are fantastic 8ace | |
