Rampant Classic - Colt SAA catalog is online (PDF)

Rampant Classic is a model company that was founded in 1996 for just one purpose - create a perfect Colt SAA model. The model itself was designed by Rokken (Rocken?) = famous Notoru Mutobe (he made designs for CMC and Marushin modelguns).

I noticed that RC has recently (12/2009) put their "Special Edition" catalogue online in PDF version with excellent quality. It is only two pages (front page is drawing like on website, second page is list and photo of models) but worth checking out.

Material that they've used for this edition of Colt is a mysterious "Hammer Locklite R".

I wonder whether RC really sells something now, and what is this "Locklite" material.

According to the online catalogue, "Hammer Locklite R" is formed with zinc alloy and Tungsten mixed together...can you believe that Tungsten is used on what supposed to be a toy (and looking at the prices now it's obviously not a toy anymore)...also the blueing is "special" as well (according to the quality performance listed on the pdf file)...

By the way - the great Mutobe san had passed away some years ago due to age and illness (before that he worked with Tanaka)...

Tungsten is very, very heavy. This is probably why it was choosen for "Hammer Locklite". What is also interesting is that there seem to be more types of this material, I found "R" and "S" versions mentioned in RC materials.

Interesting that tungsten has the same density as gold and it is the only metal that can be used to falsify gold bars with correct weight and size. It was too expensive (raw material and processing cost) to make it wort, but with recent high gold prices it seems that it started to happen.

It is sad that people go away, but that's the way of life. Mutobe-san seems to have worked for so many companies - I think he also did designs for Nakata.

From the begging of plastic modelgun production, people are always seeking for heavier material. Yes, Tungsten has high density, it is good for adding a weight, however, that will push ups the model more expensive. Rampant is really nice one, not only a material but the markings or other detail are looks real. This is for somebody who are fanatically fun of SAA, seek for real feeling in shapre and weight. Otherwise, like my self, happy with CAW.
