| Hi Welcome to the fourm As smootik said money and patience but also time the time to clean them. Now the UK law will not allow you to import any type of weapon unless you below to any of here. - Quote :
- Other than that you need to comply with UK legislation, and have a " VCRA proof of exemption" to allow you buy modelguns. Airsoft skirmisher, member of reenactment group, movie/theatrical company - these are all valid exemptions.
But if you get thought all of that then you are on to a very fun hobby so to speak. But it's a lot more than firing the weapons the carts need cleaning and so do the guns these need more maintaining than the real thing.

| Very good points about having lot of time, and especially about cleaning!
Before buying my first model I did not realize how much work is involved in cleaning versus firing.

| Welcome to the forum Dan Being a UK resident, to be able to buy or manufacture any replica imitation firearm, be that a Modelgun, Airsoft Gun, Blank Firer, or a dummy movie prop type gun, you must now be able to prove you are exempt from prosecution under the Violent Crimes Reduction Act (VCRA). In a nutshell :- Buying & Selling Modelguns / Replica Imitation Firearms in the UK </I></STRONG> Most of us living in the UK will be fully aware of the Violent Crimes Reduction Act and the implications it had when it directly affected Replica Imitation Firearms in Ocober 2007.However, as this forum is growing steadily with more and more new members coming aboard (great to see ), I thought it best to remind folks of how the Law affects any replica gun bought and sold by UK residents. All Sellers (Dealer or Private Seller)in the UK must ask for, and will need to see proof of the buyers:-
1. Age (minimum age 18yrs) 2. membership of a group (Re-enactors or Airsoft skirmish site) 3. details of the groups PLI (number and company its held with) 4. contact details of membership secretary The Seller then needs to confirm the buyers' membership before the sale can take place. If a buyer isn't able to prove legitimate membership then he / she is NOT legally entitled to buy.Be warned that illegal sales carry heavy sentences, the Law WILL come down on you like a ton of bricks.Importing COMPLETE replica firearms into the UK is also in contravention of the VCRA unless the buyer provides HM Customs with the above listed details proving entitlement to import.Spare Parts and accessories, cartridges and caps are unaffected by current legislation so no such constraints apply.Sales OUTSIDE the UK may well be subject to the Laws of the Countries involved so please make sure you're fully aware how they affect you before making any purchases guys.******* If you can satisfy these requirements, buying a collection of replica guns may only be limited by your own circumstances.Good quality Modelguns are not cheap to buy. This is an expensive hobby and once you get hooked (and you will ) be prepared to spend a lot of money If you want to fire your modelguns, which is after all a great deal of fun, you'll need supplies of reuseable cartridges and caps. These models do require careful maintainance and thorough cleaning after every firing session. Cartridges need careful cleaning and re-loading too. All this often takes more time to complete than time spent firing. I actually enjoy stripping models down, checking and cleaning them before reassembly.Spare parts can be expensive and difficult to find sometimes but the forum members are a good source of both second hand and new parts. We've good close links with friendly and helpful dealers too. Hopefully the information that smootik, Jake and I have given you will answer your questions and help you on your way to starting your collection. _________________ Cerwyn

| Thanks for all your info guys i now have a better understanding of whats involved for me to start collecting models. This is gona be a loooooong process as joining a club is probally my only answer, it does sound like alot of fun running around a field shooting blanks. Probally havnt got time to join one at the mo tho so it will have to wate a bit I can see where there coming from by making it hard to own blank fire or model guns but i think its a bit silly that i cant have somthink that is a model and doesnt really do anythink, but i can buy a crossbow that could probally shoot right though someone or a big sword or a ten inch knife. | |
