| Post by ricks There seems to be a number of different brands of Thompson SMG's available. Which is the best? (Does this justify a poll?) Thanks for your input... _________________ Rick | |

| Post by shazhib There are 3 different Thompson from Japan. MGC, Hudson and Tanaka(CMC).
MGC M1928 type, available in both military and chicago (drum mag) type. From a mechanizm and detail is ok from a realistic ness point of view, but best firing perfomanca model
Tanaka(CMC) Reproduced by Tanaka using CMC mold. Best realizm model. Maybe not good for firing. This is a model who wants to pursuit realizm. M1A1 type. CMC had limited number of M1 type which has a firing pin. Major drawback is it's price. Almost USD1,000
Hudson M1A1 type, detail and mechanizm is fairly good. Firing needs work to make it firing good. Poorman's CMC.

| I can only vouch for MGC's 1921 model as I own 2 of them.
When set up well, the MGC fires pretty reliably, especially with a drum magazine fitted. It's realistic enough to fool a friend of mine into thinking it was a de-activated real one (he has one of those!)
Only drawbacks are the blocked barrel but plenty of smoke pours from the ejection port, a soft zinc alloy bolt that doesn't last long... but a steel replacement cures that...
If you haven't got one yet, get one tomorrow!

| Post by ricks Actually, I have one, open-barrel version, that I'm "chambering" for caps & I have another one on the way that I've been advised I paid too much for, because the seller somewhat unscrupulously sold it with an ambiguous description. Since I have yet to see it, I don't know if its Caveat Emptor on me or not [Advice to self & anyone else in the same boat...] Read those descriptions carefully! At the very least I'll have one good gun & a parts gun... & less cash _________________ Rick | |

| Post by bobbybobtroop Haven't fired my thompson yet. The zink bolt worries me. Is it truly problematic? If so, where would I find a steel bolt for this model? _________________ I like guns, just don't like killing people... so much | |

Welcome to the forums! Check with forum member 8ace. He manufactures steel MGC as well as Hudson Thompson replacement bolts. They are expensive but worth it. The Zinc bolts aren't really that bad and I have fired lots of caps through my MGC Thompson and it still isn't that bad.. | |

| Post by ChenKenichi You know....I bought my MGC Chicago Thompson from Francky a few years back and never had any problems. I have only fired it a handful of times, but each time it functions flawlessly. I know a guy who has a Hudson Thompson and it is very flawed in operation, but in appearance it is very authentic. | |
