HWS Double Derringer kit.

Hello Friends,

I came back for a little review about the HWS Double Derringer, kit version.
I have to say, I have already assemble it and even paint it !
Yes, now, I paint my kits. It's not too hard and the result is much beautiful.
Let's go!


1 / The box :


Ok, the box is very little because, like you know, the Derringer is a tiny model gun.



We find :
- the kit
- a loading tool
- 2 cartridges
- A user's manual (soon in the instructions on this forum).





2 / The look :


This model gun is really tiny and its look is cool. You can put easily in your wife's hand bag
Only the plastic grips are not very good. Maybe I can find wood ones.










3 / In action :

It's really a simple operation :
Turn the part on the right of the gun, you can now open the barrel. Put the 2 carts in it, close the barrel. Ready to fire.
It's of course a simple action so you have to pull the hammer to be ready to fire.
Push the trigger and BANG (very very loud )and pull the hammer a second time and BANG !! That's all.

The noise is incredibly loud for the size of this gun.











4 / The carts

We have 2 cars, really simple, with only 2 parts :
- the top
- the body





The difficulty is to remove the cap, you have to use a little tool like a screwdriver or tweezers.



5 / To conclude.

Ok, it's a very little review but there is no too much to say about this model gun. We can say it's a tiny toy gun, very simple but with a big noise ! The assemble is easy but it's better with little fingers
At last, like you can see in the photo, the paint is quite enough well made. Ok it's not perfect but it's better than the original color kit, no?

Yes, the bang is loud. The sparks too.
For the paint, I used Tamyia spray can mat black (TS6). It's quite easy to do if you take your time. The important thing is to paint always in the same way and do a "sweep" left to the right (or right to the left ). I hope you understand...
Anyway, I did that on all my kits and I think the result is really pretty good.

I don't know this "gunmetal" paint. Could you give me the reference please?
Is it the paint which called "metal"?

Other manufacturers have similar paints, some are more black, some more silver.

ok, but I don't think the result is good. In french the translate is "gris acier" means steel grey.
The pistols are more black than grey. Ant the silver ones are more shiny than this "gun metal", maybe another manufacturer use a black.

Yeah, this is confusing name.

"Gun metal" I have seen (Tamiya, Humbrol) is usually fairly grey/silver indeed, more similar to steel colour than gun finish.
I use it to imitate bare metal only - agreed that matt black looks just much better on a gun model.
