Subject: My recent ebay score; it's the gun I have longed for since I can remember! Fri Jul 24, 2015 6:21 pm
Most people may have seen the Smith & Wesson Model 76 sub machine gun used in many 1970s movies while growing up; such classics as The Omega Man, Mr. Majestyk, Dog Day Afternoon, The Getaway, The Taking of Pelham One Two Three, Prime Cut, Magnum Force, The Gauntlet, and even recent movies like We Own the Night, and The Dark Knight, where the Joker wields an M76.
For comparisons sake I'd like to show examples of some real M76s and then the replica:
Here's a real S&W with its original shipping box, which is rare to see:
Here's a police dept. owned NIB M76, being opened in their vault; a VERY rare sight to see one still wrapped in the S&W corrosion inhibitor paper!:
And, the replica; as you can see it would fool most people (until they pick it up and realize it is made of mostly ABS plastic, rather than metal): Someday I'll have the real thing... knock on wood, but until then, this will have to do! Until I read text I was convinced it was a model shown on the photos :-) Very interesting to see the original packaging, especially one preserved for all those years.

I'm obsessed with the SW M-76; I have a folder full of clippings and photos on my computer of info I've collected over the last few yrs. I just regret not buying a real one years ago when I had more money to spend and they cost less. I'm starting a fund, if anyone wants to add to it! I have a Curio & Relics license so if I had the money saved up I could have a M-76 shipped to my front door! There are many police depts across America that have M-76s stored away, some are now starting to sell them off for newer equipment, so they are starting to show up more in mint cond. The officer who took those pictures of the one being unwrapped said it was only the 3rd time it was ever opened & looked at since 1971; he said they have 3 in their vault just like that, NIB!
I have seen a few at gun shows and if I laid my MGC out on a table it would fool almost everyone! (I guess thats why an orange plug is supposed to be on it if I leave the house with it)
