Subject: PDH Sten MK2 Wed Sep 26, 2018 4:56 pm
A few pics (I don't seem to be able to upload more tham 3!?!) of my new Sten from PDH enterprises. Scratch built in their workshops, these cost an eye watering £1100, but I'd always wanted one and it now stands as the pinnacle of my collection.
After selling my Hudson Sten to a member on here a few months back (unfortunately that gun and I didn't get along well at all), I was decided upon the GBB Sten from North East Airsoft as and when they are released. Thing is though, now I have access to a remote and isolated piece of land, where I can shoot all my guns, shotguns, Blanks, Air, Airsoft etc - I had hankered after a BF Sten. So when I saw these for sale the credit card started singing.....

Unfortunately, i won't have access to fire it until February - so no video for time being. It's pheasant shooting season now and my Farmer friend reckons the sound of it blatting away will drive his pheasants away. As a tenant, peasant 🙄, I can't argue...

i was tempted to try some PPU blanks in it as they're much cheaper and widely available. DAG appear to be out of stock everywhere, along with the New Gen stuff. I didn't realise DAG (plastic tip) was available in 1968 when Where Eagles Dare was shot. I often wonder what stuff they used in the Stens in The Eagle has Landed. Possibly like yourself, I spend ages freeze framing looking at the spent cases flying out..🤓🤣🙄😜

I think that the DAG 9mm blanks were manufactured after 1991/2. Before that they may have used Defence Industry (Canadian) or Dynamic Nobel blanks? (German) I'm not sure how the film's armorers would have sourced there blank ammunition, direct from the Military or from the government supply manufacturers under licence for Film work. I would hazard a guess that in the late 60's early 70's there probably wouldn't have been many if any supplier of blank ammunition to public like there is today.

Yes, I've often wondered what the industry 'standard' 9mm blank would've been back then. Must've been a 9x19 Parabellum equivalent, or similar to that of Winmag pre-1977. No idea..

An update here - I've had a few problems with the Sten, now resolved. Fired a few rounds through it - about 25 - back in April and it ended up with a cracked receiver end cap ring, plus a secondary chamber spacing issue! After much head scratching and problem solving it turned out to be an ammo issue - Kynoch (the makers of Winmag blanks) had upped the power for an overseas client, but had ommited to tell everybody else who don't use real guns with blank adapter barrels etc! PDH have had a few major Sten failures due to it. Bottom line, don't use Winmag until the next batch is out.. Paul Heddel, the top man that he is replaced my gun with a new scratch built one!
