I just purchased a 68 nakata mp40 that I was told was used in the Clint Eastwood movie "where eagles dare". I do not know much about these. The barrel is held on with a threaded off white colored nylon piece. This piece is cracked but not completly apart. Also it looks like something has been ground off inside the barrel where it attaches to the receiver. Can this gun be made to fire the pfc's ? It is in fairly decent shape. I can get pics to anyone who cares to help me. Thanks

Welcome to the forums mate. Used on where eagles dare, um OK!!. Anyway the Nakata is very similar to the the marushin so bits off the marushin should fit and it will fire PFC rounds. Post some pics on this site and between us we should be able to help.
Francky will be the man for spares

Just curious, is there proof that is was used in Where Eagles Dare? I am surprised a movie company would be aware of model gun companies/model guns themselves.

Hi banjoe,
Welcome to the forums!
I can pretty much discount the story that your Nakata MP40 was connected to the "Eagles Dare" movie as i have studied all of the MP40's in the movie, and they are most certainally all actual live (blank firing) MP40's.
Although, no modelguns are being used by hollywood for close-ups or firing scenes, they have been used for props and back-ground for many years as they where in-expensive and they looked the part..There are i am sure, many MGC etc. modelguns in prop departments in hollywood still to this day that get regular work in movies..

Thanks for the info. I bought the model from a man who used to own a pawn shop. He said a guy came in with it who had bought if off a hollywood auction lot. This was in 1984. That is not why I purchased it though. I think it is awesome! I always wanted a real MP-40 growing up but that was just a dream. This is as close as I will ever get. As far as the parts go what would you suggest as a starting point? Is the threaded piece the barrel screws onto called the trunion? I have access to a great machinist, should I have him make me a steel one? Any more help is very welcome.

Hi Banjoe,
yes making a new "trunnion" in steel would be a great place to start. Your barrel should extend right through this trunnion to meet the bolt face (like the real steel) Inside this barrel there would have originally been a small steel pin that the original cartridges were pushed onto.
If you remove this pin and drill it out a little and fit one of the new Marushin MP40 detonator pins. As long as you have the lightweight alloy bolt (about 250g) it will work fine wth the new Marushin MP40 cartridges giving the gun a nice slow ROF more similar to the real deal. If you bolt is 450g then its the heavier one and it wont really work as this is a little too heavy for PFC carts I`ve found.
(In this latter case use the new ABS MP40 bolt set )
You will probably have to change the ejector as well as the originals are rubbish, new Marushin ones will fit ok.
hope this helps | |

Bapty & Company, Kensel Green, London, provided all the MP40's for "Where Eagles Dare" -- Bapty had (probably still has) an enormous supply of actual WW2 Nazi weapons. The guns in the movie are real, unless they are used in a stunt sequence, or deep background. At the time of filming, 1966/67, Bapty used fiberglass and sometimes rubber stunt weapons, there were also occasionally wooden rifles used as props. Very unlikely your modelgun used on this show, however, could have been used on later shows. When I worked for Bapty in the late eighties they had a huge collection of metal replica guns for background work. These were rented out a lot.

I want to thank you all for replying so quickly. If any of you kind fellows has ever made a new trunnion and has the specs I would be grateful to get them. I might even be able to get several if any one else needs one. Thanks
Actually it was used in the movie " Where Eaglets Dare" It played just a "small"part!!
