Subject: Wimmersperg Spz-l Full Scale Build Fri Jan 08, 2021 1:34 pm
Hello dear modelgun friends,
I've been a member of this forum for a very long time, but haven't found the time to post anything here for years. So I would like to use my new modelgun project to change that. Currently I am working on building a Wimmersperg Spz-l (it is a German Sten based gas blowback weapon in 7.92 Kurz) in 1/1 scale. If you want to know more about the project, just check out my blog
When the Spz-l model is finished, I will also build the Spz-kr in full scale.
Best regards

Many thanks for your encouragement here. As promised, the Spz-l project continues. Over the weekend I was able to continue working on it. You can find a new post about it in my blog.
Because the question came up some background information about the Spz weapon family: The Austrian designer Freiherr von Wimmersperg designed the Spz's (version l, kr and other models) at the end of 1944 probably on behalf of a German armament company. Documents suggest that he, as a freelance designer, received the order from the Mauser company or a subcontractor of Mauser. The goal at the time was to combine the easy-to-manufacture Sten-MP with the 7.92x33 caliber in order to provide German troops with the handguns they needed. The basic idea behind Wimmersperg's design was to use as many parts as possible from current weapons production in order to keep the manufacturing costs low. Since Mauser made copies of the Sten (Potsdam unit), these components and corresponding design plans were available. Wimmersperg also used parts from the MP44 and the Karabiner 98k in his design in addition to the Gerät Potsdam parts.
All the best Gecko
