Hi Mate,

No i have never seen that before and I've had a few CMC replicas?,but i would think the same person done the over stamp that put the fake WaA mark on it to make it look more genuine?.
Doc what part of the weapon is this stamp on,I'll have another look at mine.

Hi Kickback

Its the butt plate from a K98 and it is supposed to have the Eagle and CMC but I`ve not seen any replica where the manufacturer marking has been over stamped before .

Doc,

I do believe that the lined out CMC marking is due to either Tanaka's or? reselling old CMC stock after the company folded. Perhaps, the CMC mark was lined out to show that the modelgun was not a CMC product anymore?

Yes I figured it was perhaps a reject part or something to do with CMC folding , Id hasten to add this mark was made quite some time ago as the entire piece was quite rusty and very old rust if you know what I mean.

The box was still marked CMC though, no mention of any other maker .

I Like all these intriguing details .

Is the "CMC" stamped too? Or was it cast? This is really strange.

Yep the CMC is stamped in too although the last "C" has imprinted very lightly ...I did consider that perhaps this was why the part was "possibly" rejected....but then again was CMCs quality control that good ?

Do you think they would take the effort to clearly overstamp the markings before they ditch a part? man, it could be possible. It would be just like the Japanese back in the days when their products were famous for their high built quality ...

I'd imagine that if CMC's Quality Control rejected the stamping on the Butt Plate they'd have rejected the part before fitting it to the rifle.

Did CMC manufacture all the components "in-house" or did sub-contractors produce parts for them to order?

Again Japanese QA would put the onus for quality on a sub-contractor to ensure all parts were 100% sound. If they received a sub-standard part they'd have sent it back most probably.

Mark's theory that Tanaka obliterated CMC's mark after taking over the company sounds very likely although it's odd the box still has CMC markings?

I'd be interested to see some photos of the whole model please DOC if you could. Does this model fire or is it a dummy round job?

Its a firing model , and the CMC mark on the left of the receiver remains intact.
Its only the buttplate that has an odd marking .

Odd isnt it

Is it possible that the two lines through the cmc stamp are actually part of the eagle logo stamp, and that some doughnut has just stamped the whole logo too low down on the plate?

Don't suppose a previous owner stamped it himself to mark it as his own do you?
Maybe a Reenactor at sometime marked it in case it got mixed up with other rifles?

If the CMC stamp on the reciever is intact then nobody's tried hiding the original manufacturer have thet?
